to be perfectly honest, i hadn't really given mika not being there a thought! his seat has been taken by kimi, who, looks exactly like mika when he's in the car, (the helmet for example!) and jpm and rafe have taken up the mantle quite nicely. if there was nobody around to have challanged tgf in the first 3 races and he'd walked off with the victories, then maybe i'dbe pineing for mika!

Hakinnen..he's a family man now, he's not a risk taker any longer. He's lost his touch, great driver though before he got his first child.

I rememeber Keke Rosberg saying that he retired from F1 because he was already a world champion and that know one will remember him.
Kekes's style on and off the track was a bit tits and yet he is largly forgot about. I feel the same will thing will happen to Mika. |

Mika retiring was (and still is) sad, but there comes a time when all great sportsmen must leave.
I wouldn't say F1 is in chaos, but the battles between TGF and Mika were always relatively fair. There was a mutual respect between the two, off and on the track, which produced better, and one must say cleaner, racing. |

Well put it this way JPM and TGF have certainly caused sufficient action for me not to be pining for Mika, sad to have seen him go but perhaps it was for the best.

I miss Mika a lot. I shall miss him even more later in the year at Silverstone when I won't be able to chat to him in the paddock from time to time At least I'll still have my McLaren pals to chat to (I hope!).
But having said that I can now watch races in a calmer frame of mind as I won't spend all my time fretting in case he crashes or suffers car failure. The way McLaren are at the moment (e.g. not as good as they ought to be) he's better off without it. I really don't want this to turn into a Michael vs Mika thread (that is NOT the intention of this comment) so please don't do so, but I think Michael is missing Mika a bit: it was so nice to have a rival that would never bash you on or off the track and you could have dinner and a drink with before and after a race. The friendship aspect is missing at the moment; okay Mika and Michael got far too lovey-dovey at times but I could always guarantee close but fair racing between them and never any risk of being punted from one end of the track to the other. |

I don't think it will be too long until Shu goes the way of Mika.
End of this season? Maybe. End of next year? More likely i think. But either way i don't think he will be around much longer. |

I have to say that at this early point in the season , i havent really missed Mika being there. Maybe later on in the season a gap will appear that only Mika has filled before . I think with Ralf and JPM at Williams has filled the gap quite well .
I like Mika though , He was a good racer . |

I miss him, but do you think he is sad that he is missing this year with Mclaren? I don't blame him to be honest. I think Jacques Villeneuve should have done the same this year, but then he probably couldn't stand even being away from the BAR.
Hopefully for both of them things will improve next year and then it'll be great! Unless your name is DC or Kimi. |

To say F1 is in chaos is a bit of an over-exaggeration. It was a shame to see Hakkinen go, but at the same time he wasn't competitive last year and judging by this year's McLaren so far, things would be no different now anyway. I've found the first 3 races more than interesting enough (far more so than anything 2001 had to offer), so I don't think F1 has been too adversely affected by Hakkinen's retirement/sabbatical.

To be perfectly honest I found Mika to be a decidely dull and boring racer, though he was fair when he raced.
The thing is though is that wheras Mika raced fair, TGF didn't. I can remember 1 good overtaking manoover (Spa 2000) which Mika did. TGF has a new boy to play with now, who races on the same (agression) level, JPM. PS Does anyone else consider JPM to be like Senna, and Ralf like Prost? ie one a battler and the other a points grabber? |
