According to this article he seems confident that they can.Honda also have reason to believe that Super Aguri can run its new car.

Um, are they really going to be allowed to run it with all the furore about copy/customer cars etc..?
If they do then Super Aguri ought to be able to be on the grid in Melbourne with a rebadged BAR if they feel like it! (Unless that's what this Paul Owen Fabs chassis really is?) |

I think Super Aguri would prefer to run a rebadged Honda chuntz. They're trying to escape four year old cars remember.
I totally agree though. I think it'll all die down in the end and they'll be able to run. Who cares if Colin Kolles or whatever gets upset, it's more competitive cars! |

Yeah i'm with you, i'd rather see people run what they want. Why don't Spyker therefore do a deal with Ferrari to run rebadged F2006A's as well. That would be very interesting. |

Would Spyker want to be seen to be running another manufacturers car though?
And besides, they need to let Gascoyne flex his muscle otherwise he will fall out with them. Dreams though.... |

That was Gustav Brunner and his team in 2003 (allegedly), but that's another story altogether!

I was also thinking back to a few years ago with the Ligier and Benetton cars of the early 90's.They looked identical, but couldn't have been more different. Last edited by Marbot; 3 Jan 2007 at 18:36. |

It seems that Gerhard Berger lied (or at best deceived people/pushed the boundaries of semantics when referring to the word ´new´) when he was reported to have said that Toro Rosso would run its own unique car this year.
They´re not really going to win much respect like this are they? |

It makes little difference.
If Spyker ran rebadged Ferrari's from 2006, Auguri runs this years or last years Honda, Red Bull run rebadged 2006 Renaults....we get a more competitive and interesting year, and BMW whines louder.... Go back to the days of the kit car era (1970's Surtees drove a Mclaren for a while, Rob walkers private lotuses, etc. it was also so much more interesting and so much less boring. |

They're may be a few arguments to overcome yet but I agree with Teretonga's point, I'd like to see F1 with privateers running customer cars, it can only be more competitive and exactly what F1 needs.

Spyker is just an engine deal, and they can end that and have Ferrari's chassis secrets, so Ferrari wouldn't do that in a million years. Red Bull have very little to lose as they own Torro Rosso (or 50% anyway) while Honda all but own Super Aguri. |

RedBull technologies own the design rights to the new STR,not RedBull.Honda R&D own the design rights to the 2006 Honda chassis and not the Honda racing team. They are technically seperate constructors. As far as the concorde agreement is concerned, that is all that is required.
So technically next seasons SA should be the equal of,if not better than, last seasons Honda (it did have aero problems but made great strides towards the end of the season). This seasons STR remains to be seen however. |

I'll be interested to see if the STR2 follows the same development path as the RB3. Obviously, there'll be changes to the rear end to accomodate the different engines, and perhaps even changes to the front end if needed for balance. If RBR want to play at the front though, they cant really afford to share development time with STR

Or perhaps it doubles the on track development that goes into RBR. Possibility of running parts in race situations on the STR to test them before they mke it onto the RBR??? |

i think they will use the STR's as test mules, try different things and if it dosn't work ohh well it's only a STR's race wrecked if it works slap it on the RBR might be the way of the future privateer teams using custumer chassis and the manufacturer/parent team can use them as test mules.

But thats what they use testing for. Might make sense in V8 Supercars where theyve only got 6 test days a year, but F1 will be doing 30K km's testing through the year.

I must admit I don't see a problem - I am sure that we would all like to see more competitive cars on the track. Spyker are sore because they didn't think of it and know that this years car probably won't be as good as last years Honda!
Didn't Sauber run a a car very similar to a Ferrari a few years ago, too. |
