Absolutely gutted. I was going to order from them with my next pay cheque.
Very sad news, they had so many bargains and I was a loyal customer. So many of my books are from them. |

That's not good...has anyone heard why they're not trading any more?
Shame |

I suspect the clue is in the two words 'official receiver'...

Apologies, didn't read properly and presumed he was someone to do with the company itself.

I read about that, I think the official receivers are PWC. I know they've been called in to "do the do" with a record/cd company that has also gone bang. could be mistaken it was on Times on line.

Such a shame that, their Motor Racing directories were a series that should have continued, would have been valuable resource material.

A lot of specialist book retailers have gone the same way over the last couple of years, including Sportspages in Charing Cross Road.
It's all a result of the abolition of the Net Book Agreement about a decade ago. |

Internet book sales wouldn't have had much effect if the Net Book Agreement was in place though, as they wouldn't have been able to discount them - they would cost the same as in the high street.

It does work both ways of course. However I do see your point.

Even if the NBA was still in force, the online companies would just ship books in from abroad, as happens with DVDs already.

Perhaps if you'd ordered before they may still be around

Did anyone ever find / hear if they had a big sell off? If they haven't yet would still be interested in hearing about it.

Apologies for digging this up again.
After a fairly disappointing experience with an online book shop, I was reminded of the efficient service millhousebooks used to offer. Lately, I've been trying to get my hands on some books I've been meaning to get for quite a while. It appears some are out of print and are no longer stocked by anyone. CANAM by Pete Lyons is one such book. Mind you, a certain online bookshop advertised it as available a while back but after enquiring as to why my order had not arrived after almost two months, they realised they didn't have it afterall. Now, I swear I'm not making this up, I remember getting a little leaflet advertising motoring books for sale. I'm absolutely sure it was millhousebooks (or at least a company with a very similar name in the same locale). This was sometime in the second half of last year. I distinctly remember thinking "they must be back in business or the receivers are trying to sell off the stock". I've misplaced the leaflet and can't find it anywhere. The original website address appears to function but it takes you to an Amazon.co.uk type page. Did anyone ever get to bottom of why the company folded? Did they re-emerge under another same? Was there ever a sale of assets? |

Surprising they haven't got a redirect on their old site?

I got a note from them recently as I'd bought the prior volumes of the BRM series from them. The offer was to get a copy of Volume 3. I did this, and the book arrived fairly promptly (allowing for being in the US). They were'nt unfortunately able to match the number, although they didn't guarantee that. In an exchange of correspondence I had with them they said that had a lot to do on the new web site and (for example) they'd be able to supply David Bull Publications.
I was glad to see them back, service seemed good, but from a US point of view they're quite a lot more expensive than some other outlets over here. I also might have teased 'Elizabeth' a little as she sent me a link with yet another variation of their URL www.millhousebooksexhiits.com ! |

Hi Suze - my name is Elizabeth Hunter and I run Mill House Books Exhibitions Ltd - I used to work for Mill House Books before it ceased trading in January 2007, I offer a mail order service - new website is www.millhousebooksexhibits.com - not complete yet but I do this on my own and work long days - and nights!!! Titles are being added on a daily basis, I can send you a recent brochure if that would be of interest... just let me know.
Regards Elizabeth |
