Mount Panorama redevelopment
I hear that the redevelopment of the beloved Mount Panorama has come to a standstill today, due to the appointed contractor, Austin Australia (?) falling onto liquidation/administration. Anyone else know anything about this, and whether it effects the planned work in the long term? GTR?

Oh... I read that Austin Australia had gone south in the paper and thought the name was familiar.
This could be a bit of a mess considering the pit lane is now completely levelled.... What was that about not being able to stage a race because there is no pitlane? The likely outcome is that the project manager will appoint a replacement developer under force majeure. We shall see |

http://www.austin.au.com/index1.html Bathurst City Council are but one of many many high profile clients
There is a claim on the site that it is "business as usual" under administration, however this rarely happens so smoothly |

Austin were doing the demolition of the site, while another company ,Bathurst Demolitions, are doing the cleanup and leveling of the site. The site has been flattened bar for a few of the garages at the back.

What else are they doing to the track, obviously new pit bays are going in, and theres the new motel complex. Are they resurfacing? Didnt they recently do that? It would be a shame to lose too much character of this great circuit.

They will resurface the pitlane I believe, and the area behind the pitlane. The track was only done a couple of years ago

The only difference to the track will be the pit lane entry will now come off conrod straight at the bottom and turn left into the pitane without the "larry" esses in the middle.

Ahh good, i couldnt understand why they would resuface the track again, the surface lends itself to brilliant qualifying efforts just after a slight shower..........obviously needing a brilliant driver to take advantage of it. I wouldnt want to take anything away from murf
I wonder if they are going to level the road area on pitlane, meaning get rid of the massive slope effect it has sloping away from the pitbays. You know what i mean? |

A friend of mine is a surveyor on the council and had to measure the incline of the pitlane every metre to check the level changes, so i think there is some leveling going on. I dont know if the can get it completely level as it is a fairly steep grade when yopu look at it.

Thanks for that MP. I was talking about the slope that runs down hill from the pitbays to the safety fence, asuming you are refering to the same thing. Not the slope going downhill from about halfway down pit straight.
Strange question i know, but there is reason for my madness |

Are they going back any further than the bridge? It seems that the scoring tower and James Hardie Centre are still standing. Are they next on the list or will they stay as is?

Geez, all they need to do is tear down the safety fence, put in a leather seat and lap sash belt, some sangas in the console and we could return to the good old days

I didn't think the pitlane was that old, about 1987 a new one was built. Had they outgrown it already ? Or was it not that swish to begin with.
