How boring can it get?
Let's start a bet shall we? How long will it take for every one of the legions of F1 fans to change the channel evrytime F1 is live?
I personally cannot take it. Atleast when Hakkinen was there, there was a reason to watch. He made raing entertaining while schumacher is just making it extremely boring and terrible with this extreme precision and the fastest car on the grid. This is an absolute butchering of a sport once i loved and was exited about. I now find interest in other forms of racing like Moto GP and Rallying. I'm sorry to say this but for the sake of the entertainment factor in F1, schumacher would have to retire. |

If that's what you honestly think, feel free to change the channel, but don't wine about it.

Dunno about you but 1996 to 2000 were one of the best and most entertaining seasons for me. Since then the sport has become one of the most boring sports. 2003 gave a ray of hope but the Ecclestone-Mosley duo had to go ahead and screw everything up. |

Ill gladly take a bet that there will ALWAYS be someone watching F1. You can make as many changes as you want but you will NEVER make everyone happy!
Also why should a driver retire just because he is currently the best/out performing the rest. Shouldnt the rest improve there game? Or step down and let someone else do the job! Last edited by Cougar21; 14 Jun 2004 at 10:44. |

All of you people are not getting the point i am trying to put forward. I want to watch F1 races but lately almost everyone will agree that F1 is not what it used to be. As much as i love the sport, i can't watch the terrible form it is in right now.
I'm just putting forward my opinion, just like everyone does on a discussion forum. |

i fully agree with you, f1 at the moment is somewhat embarrassing in that it is a sport we follow avidly yet it is more often than not very boring and predictable. I would guess that like me most die hard f1 fans are fans of any motorsport as when you look at just how fantastic moto gp has been this season it wouldnt suprise me if many f1 fans crossed over, as it stands this season if there was a clash between an f1 gp and a moto gp i know exactly which one i would put on.

For a person to claim to be a fan of "racing", i guess what you want is show, not competition.
Because your suggestion of improving racing is by taking away the best driver/car whatever, which is completely ridiculous. F1 isn't what it used to be..indeed, there is a serious problem when a driver/team could get wins effortlessly without facing any challenger. But does the problem lie with him and his team? NO. Why was Mika's years great? Because despite him having a good car, Michael and Ferrari managed to up the game and push Mclaren all the way to the last race. What about now? Where's Williams? Where's Mclaren? Where's the rival teams...??? We have 10 teams, 9 to challenge Ferrari...yet NOBODY could do half a decent job. And you have to ask those guys "WHY?" F1 is less exciting now because a portion of the people didn't do their job good enough. And to blame those who did their job brilliantly for the lack of show is wrong. |

I agree that to improve a sport does not mean to throw out the people who are best at it, but that's why god did not create everybody perfect. What if everybody was perfect? There would be no fun, no competitions, no racing, no beauty paegents at all......I know this does not deal with the point i am trying to imply but it's just an example to show that whenever a sport is dominated by one person or one team it is "BOUND" to get boring. That's why the 1998-99-2000-03 seasons were so good. You'll have to agree on this. Quote:
At the end of the day i am only expressing my opinion and dissatisfaction for the sport i loved dearly. And that's what discussion forums are for, "To share opinions." |

From seeing so many other forms of racing, I've come to feel that open-wheel cars just aren't ideal for motor racing. Bikes are narrower (hence mroe room for accelerating), less techncially advanced, with faster acceleration (due to weight) and inferior brakes, all of which ensures more wheel top wheel action. Touring Cars allow for much more contact and paint-swapping.
ALthough 2004 hasn't been great, it's been FAR more itneresting than 2002, with great duels for 2nd in the table going on, and a lot of teams very evenly matched. This year's Canadian race wasn't much worse than last year's, but only Monaco and maybe Bahrain have been 'classic' |

F1's the only form of motorsport where I feel tense with anticipation ahead of a race.

I for one will still watch f1... it is miles better than any other series i have watched.. but that is my biased opinion...
I think we should admire Schumi's driving... those magic laps he puts in when his rivals pit.... and at circuits where his car is not that good judging from his teammates performance... MS still manages to get great results |
