Nissan Super Tourer in the DSC
Ok,
As a few of you know, I'll be racing the ex Aiello BTCC winning Nissan Primera in the first half of the Dutch Supercar cup this year. I'm joining Promotorsport who most famously took this car to 5th in the ETCC and 1st independant with a view to a long term project that will hopefully become more obvious as time goes on... First race will be at Spa on the 8th of April... so getting close... I'm in the car for the first time (at Spa) on Friday 7th, sadly the UK weather scuppered any testing chances before that so we'll have to get upto speed very quick but I know the circuit well so should be fun and the aim is to be very competitive... Anyone from the forum thinking of coming along to the meeting, make sure you come and say hello, we race Sat 16.55 and Sun 15.25 for an hour each time. Anyway, I could do with 10-tenths help: I'm considering getting a decent replica made of the racesuits Aiello and Leslie wore that season, but I'm struggling to find full body shots of either of the drivers to compare the design I've found with the reality. Does anyone have any old podium or paddock photos of the boys in 1999 for me to check against? Cheers RickP |

Nice one Rick - that is one well prepared car - I remember how well Jonathon ran in it a couple of years ago. Is it still in the original colours that it ran at Goodwood in?
Wish I could come to watch but have tickets for Twickenham that weekend so will be there, are you planning any further outings? Heard a few bits of gossip about a long term project this time last year - still the same thing?? I have a couple of photos which will be of interest to you - PM me with your email address and I'll send them over (they're copyright so I cannot post them on here.) All the best Craig. |

we'll def. be out at Zolder (21st May) and then Brands GP (18th Jun), with hopefully a run up the hill at Goodwood (8/9 July) if Lord March is kind enough to invite us...
Cheers |

The same PRO Motorsport who ran the Nissan in BTCC 2000, was it for Colin Blair? Was that the same car?

I heard they went really well at Spa challenging the GT1 cars for pace and running 1st in class 6th overall until a stone through the rad ruined it.

She's an absolutely incredible bit of kit...
195kph apex speed at Eau Rouge... just a little lift in 6th then full throttle and hold on tight. We did a 2m33.6 which would have put us 3rd on the grid for last years WTCC! |

That surprises me, thought it'd have obliterated any Super 2000 machinery according to what a lot of people say.

We're running enduro tyres and a lot more fuel than the Super 2000 guys... that time was set with 50 mins of the race still to run... and Spa is a power circuit... if they can't get a bit more power out of the current BMW than we (can afford) to get out of a 7 yr old Nissan I think there ought to be questions asked... somewhere twisty I reckon it would show them a clean pair of heals.
Nissan Maxima : Group N car... to ensure the whole team is Nissan. Should be a good weekend at Zolder this weekend if anyones around to come and say hello! Cheers Rick |

Rick P, what was the outcome of the two Zolder races ?, looking at the Dutch website it shows zero points scored, were there problems ?.
I also see Graham Coombes DNF in race 1 and a DNS in race 2, not a good weekend for the Brits ? |

First race went in gravel at second corner avoiding crash and retired with a clutch problem.
Forgotten the second problem but watch it on the box Saturday night 6.30pm or in Dutch on the supercar website |

drive shaft in race 1, Mr Coombs went off on a large puddle and hit the back of his 911 which then caught fire reasonably impressively so DNS in race 2.
In race 2, started 44th, got caught up in a pretty major shunt on the rolling start, t-boning the sister Primera of Dougall but was able to continue and drove past everyone to lead the class and 4th overall!!! Then sadly the car succumbed to her injuries just as I was pitting for the drive change. As Les says, the Dutch coverage is pretty spectacular, the extended programme is on Motors TV at 6.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) night then next race we'll be at Brands in June when I hope some more 10-tenths guys will be coming to watch! Cheers Rick |

Hi Rick, Good to hear your report.
Sorry to hear about the injuries to two Primeras + other cars. I had a look on the web site soon after the weekend and they had posted the images. Hope Brands is a lot cleaner and here's hoping that we have good weather for the weekend. I am looking forward to the event. Obviously your car is much more advanced that ours with more power too (exuses are starting)+ the additional outings you have had this year. It wil be good to meet you both, hope we can share a beer (or orange juice!) in the evening together. Regards, Michael. |

Given my finishing record so far this year Michael, I'm tipping you've nothing to fear from us!
Here's to a few (celebratory) beers at Brands and a sunny weekend! |

watched the English version tonight and the commentators do like the car by the amount of times they mentioned it.
Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh at Brands in just 12 days time |
