Best oval racers in the world?
As in bikes and touring cars, it's hard to make a direct comparison, so I'll allow you 3 choices

Sorry, can one of the moderators edit the poll? I forgot to allow multiple choices.

In the "other" catagory I think Rick Mears was probably the best oval racer.

You got that right, Flatspot! Rick was THE ovalmeister. But I think that the poll is amongst active drivers.

Of active drivers, I'd have to go with Kenny Brack. His oval stats from last year speak for themselves!

As much as it pains me to say it, the best oval racer in the series at the moment is Brack. Although his stats this year are pathetic compared to last year.

Actually, not that much if anything at all. He's quite a good guy.

Hornish is good around ovals, not many ppl would keep there nerve when going wheel to wheel at 220+ for several laps

Duane "Pancho" Carter would be my pick... the master of the "high-groove", without the aid of an Afro!

Sam Hornish Jr or Tony Stewart. Both are really good on ovals. de Ferran is more of a road course man.

Know someone else who was good "in his day"? Now don't laugh at me for this! Scott Goodyear. Maybe not one of the "best of all time", but he was fast.

In 95, he passed the pace car on the last restart and then refused to answer the black flag, so they stopped scoring him. Jacques Villeneuve, who was penalized TWO laps earlier in the race for a similar infraction, went on to victory. That was the last real 500.

Sam Hornish or Kenny Brack. All-time would be Rick Mears, easily.

Hard to say, the car and its setup is the dominating factor in any oval contest, so I guess it would come down to who's the bravest and can handle the most nervous (and fastest) setup

Gil is at his best on road courses, but his IRL results this year certainly suggest that he and Helio are as good as Sam on ovals, epsecially given their lack of experience with the cars and some of the circuits.

How about Danny Wheldon, I saw Tomas' name there in one list, surely if he's included then Dan deserves more than a mention. Very succesful on Ovals all the time he's been in the US, it would be great to see what he could do in a Champ car, IRL will be a good place to start, but he should be in CART

Don't know that he was better than Mears, but Tom Sneva was awfully fast on the ovals!

ah yeah Tom Sneva - what was his nickname?? I remember it was quite cool - he always ran the smallest rear wing possible... oversteer on a superspeedway - can you imagine it?

Fella by the name of Foyt wasn't too bad either. Thing about Mears was that he almost NEVER spun. Amazing. Kevin Cogan was pretty quick too. Mario, obviously. And I will throw out one more who came from drag racing: Danny Ongais ("Danny-On-The-Gas"). I saw him at Mid Ohio in a Porsche - good God he was indecently quick. Had a big one at Indy, was it and never quite regained his form but for sheer speed, I would say Ongais, Sneva and then Mears for the blend of speed and consistency.
