Team Aprilia has chosen Ulsterman Jeremy McWilliams to lead their charge at the World 250cc Championship along with German female racer Katja Poensgen. I am curious to know how the rest of you think of this. We don't get a huge amount of GP bike coverage in the US, much less the lower displacement classes. Peonsgen is the only woman to compete for World Championship honors and is the only woman to ever win an international title, the 1998 Supermono Cup.

Jeremy is hard as nails. I'm sure he can give Aprilia more than a few wins and if he's consistant he is a contender for the championship.
As for Katja, besides the fact that I want to marrie her it looks a bit like a publicity stunt. Germany is a biiiiiggg
market and i mean that without taking anything away from the fact that Katja is one very fast(good looking)woman and I have no doubt that she can be a top 10 finisher.

It's a pitty they don't cover 250 and 125 on american TV. The other way around I would love to see some AMA/WERA series on television here in Europe. Maybe in a few years time on the internet!

Looks like McWilliams took up Aprilia on their offer then.

I can't say what I think of Katja having never seen her race, nor even a picture of her so can anyone tell some more about what she has achieved?

this isnt the official works team. Jeremy is getting a full 2001 spec RSW250, identical to Melandri's but is in a team run by Martin Wilding, with Katja on a 'customer' RSV250.
No announcement yet as to the sponsors.

Aprilia's offer wasn't for a works team but for the mechanics to follow Jeremy to a private team for a year.
