Lee, i think your better off with a lower powered engine to start racing with, you'll learn more with the rest of the car, once you get used to this & you can sling it into every corner with 100% commitment then its time for real bhp motor, as starting out with the big motor will terrify you initally & teach only to be a point & quirt driver

You want signatures on your licence so you need to be finishing races for this year, so you want a reliable car, & as much as I know you want to be battling @ the front really you should aiming to finsh every race & get pleanty of 'time' behind the wheel, then the speed will increase on its own

I understand what you mean andy am sorta used too big powers ive had my fair share of monsters from 700 bhp skyline too a interbreed rapid genuine 555 rally car not the same as the track but does fly
I find realisticly??? aslong as you dont push the boundres like i did when i was younger in a superkart
an just go easy learn the tracks an car its all ok am not out there too challenge or race anyone just a excellent once in a life time feeling too be out in my dads an maurices car

What like me lol!

I will be there Lee replacement gearbox in and seems fine I won't be out with Classic Thunder though, I will be in the Pre 93's with Black Thunder (Camaro IROC-Z) someone has to fly the big banger class in 93's its getting a tad boring with all those M3 thingies even though they will beat me but there are other cars out there that are raceable lets see some more XJ6's out the rules are very friendly towards them as they can run to the Pre 83 weights! I do find it strange that people want to race with the same cars as theirs all the time.

Good going look forward to seeing it. BTW I agree with Andy's comments above, may be a blessing in disquise less power, if its on quad webbers or dellortos it will have a great spread of power and torque which can be more useful than out and out peaky grunt in a circuit racer. My mate has a similar engine in his SD1 and he was an out and out winner with the car.

380 is defently a over statement the manifolds are mgb v8 types also known as block huggers?

Very restrictive also the heads are standard sd1's nastly ported weirdly by like a dremmel???
the engine was same as my new one in there now now 4.7 rover v8 with arrow h beam rods omega pistons running a piper 320 cam on solid lifters an adjustable push rods at the most 330 out of the spec it didnt make sence too me at all
as the car like you say has been very quick my diagnostics are it should be better than ever now iam told too not nail it hard off
paul speakman of engine tekninks who is such a genius infact a wizard with engines what he doesnt know isnt worth knowing he's the best
so ill take his word an peak it at 5,000 poss 5500
most run her it nice ill get a nice print out too
ill set her up for torque not bhp prob run hotter plugs too get some good leads too
ill get there soon

Lee had gearbox problems, particularly downshifting into 3rd...and meant he spun at Lodge...fortunately without damage and without being collected by anyone...although I believe the lead changed hands at Lodge under yellows.......

Dont cry too much Lee you took her home in one piece and have got the first meeting out the way, the car sounded really sweet so just need to sort that transmission out now.

the engine was perfect

paul at engine tekniks did a outstanding job on the engine i think the carbs are not set up there was a flat pace on her very oddly??
but it pulled sorta ok not that fast really my 555 rally car would be similer to joss's off the line looking at the vid of him
but mine was not right at all carb wise it was spitting in qualifying but?
who care it was fun untill it was jamming it large in 3rd
i wanna thank everyone for the support an nice comments as thats what its all about i love being out there surrounded with decent folk

Al

you looked like you were a bit off the pace as well,

Quali you certainly looked like you were dropping fluid but by the time the session was over it has disappeared but so had you!

The rad cap had not been secured correctly and threw all the water out, I pulled up after I did my required laps. It was fine for the race but I started from the back got a bit of a flyer and took 3 or 4 cars by the first bend only to be confronted with a smash blocking the track. The restart was not so good as the cars infront moved over and blocked me so I had to brake and go around the other side and lost a load of time I will post up some youtube later.
