Ferrari have made it bluntly clear that they will perhaps stop short of murder to prevent Rubens from challenging TGF for the WDC, although forcible confinement may enter their plans.
But what if ... Rubens has been forbidden to beat TGF to the finish line. But remember it is possible to win a WDC without winning races. All you need are the most points. Suppose Rubens collects enough seconds and thirds to get into second position by the end of the season (assuming TGF remains in first, which is a big IF right now). And suppose in the last race of the season, TGF makes one of his patented Big Screwups and ends up in the gravel, in the wall, or in the side of another car he has tried to ram off the road. And suppose Rubens is in second place at this time. What do you think Ferrari will do? P.S. Please don't just say "Rubens sucks." |

Liz,
I won't say "Rubens Sucks" but I will say. He's got to be in the position to start with. Do you really believe that DC or MH would just sit back and let him get that win? It would be more than good luck if he keeps as close to the other three as he is now. I don't believe in the Ferrari conspiracy theories but I do believe that the team can't produce two equally reliable cars (or simaltaneus dual performances) at each race. Taking that on board RB hasn't done too badly. But, remember he's been told he can't win it and that will destroy what is (to me) an apparently sensitive ego. BTW. I think I'm possibly the only one on this forum who's ever strongly questioned RB's talents so I must assume that you aimed that "sucks" remark at me. |

Nah, Pete, I know you have more to say than "Rubens sucks" - your opinion's as valid as mine (although of course you are wrong. )
I'm not saying DC and The Cranky One are going to "let" Rubens win races out of some kind of misguided sympathy for his position - he's got to earn it same as anybody. I just think that we don't need any conspiracy "Theory" now - it's all out in the open. Do you think Ferrari will do something active and obvious to prevent Rubens from winning the WDC if it looks to be possible? (Hey, Johnny Herbert won a race last year. Anything can happen.) |

Tee hee. I could say .................. but back to the thread.
I think they would do anything in desperation but it would show them up to be what they are. Poor managers. However, I really don't believe it would be necessary because the Macaroons will be in the way. Its an interesting scenario though. Last race and four drivers within three points of each other. |

Peter, I have been saying all season that Rubens needs to get his act together.
BUT Liz has a good point. Frentzen was only 10 points behind the Macs and Irvine by the Nurburgring last season. Had he won there, which he indoubtedly would have if it weren't for his faulty electrics, then he would have been right up there with Hakkinen and Irvine. If HHF can almost win the WDC by virtue of 2 wins and a ton of 2nd and 3rd places, then I think Rubens can as well. Sweet mother... the look on Jean Todt, TGF and Montezemolo's faces if he does... |

6 races are too long way to understand where it leads. TFG started the season like unconditional favorite. 3 years ago Villy Veber produced a lot of souvenirs with slogan "Shummi is WDC three times" and believed to sell it. How long this "Next year" song will be? I suppose it will be selling like symbol of might-have-been hopes. If I belived in theory of probability I would say TFG may win WDC. But Rosenkranz and Hilderstan are dead, and coin allways fall by heads. It's more likely Rubens or David become WDC. Or camel will climb through eye of a needle.

I just want to see the faces of Ferrari if Rubens stays within 1 point of the WDC and something happens in that last race - Buy stock in Kleenex. It's going to go up up up.

I would like to see that too Liz. Just imagine....the 30 million dollar a year boy beaten by his "low profile" teammate.....oh....that would be so nice....and it would be nice to see Rubens win.....but I find it unlikely...specially because the little self confidence that he could have picked up at hockenheim was immediately destroyed by Luca di Montezemolo and his declarations and unless schu has another problem like that it's unlikely that we'll see rubens perform that well.

Luca will have to find other employment if Rubens wins; perhaps Rubens would take him as a mechanic, but if I were him I'd kick his can in the direction of Germany as soon as I could get my foot in position.

This is going to be difficult, Liz, but I will try to be serious. Of course, Ferrari will let Rubens win under these conditions. They will be so happy with a WDC after all those years, they will cheer if Bugs Bunny won under those conditions. They only want Rubens (I like the name Bugs Bunny for him) to help TGF win rather than split winning points with him for the rest of the races. Yep!! Bugs Bunny suits Rubens, and I shall call him Bugs Bunny from now on. On the other hand, when he cries, he looks kinda like Elmer Fudd. What a decision - what shall I call the guy???

I think I'll call DC "Daffy" then (DuC, get it?) Can't you see him shaking his finger at TGF and yelling "YOOOOOOOURRRRRE DETHIPICABLE!!!!!!!!"
And Uncle Ron can be Marvin the Martian. "I'm not angry --- I'm just terribly, terribly hurt!" |
