Andrew Pitt Call Up
It's an ill wind that ....
from allmoto.com.au: Australia's 2001 Supersport world champion, 26-year-old Andrew Pitt, will make his MotoGP debut for Kawasaki at the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang, after being called up to deputise for the injured Akira Yanagawa for the remainder of the 2002 season. The Australian's last minute call up came about as a result of Akira Yanagawa's seventh-lap crash at last weekend's Pacific Grand Prix at Motegi. Initially thought to have been uninjured in the crash, Yanagawa was later diagnosed with a fractured bone in his hip, which will rule the Japanese rider out of the final three rounds of the championship in Malaysia this Sunday, Australia on October 20 and then in Spain. "I saw the crash on TV, but it was only when (Kawasaki team chief) Harald Eckl phoned from Japan and told me to pack my bags and catch a flight out to Malaysia that I found out Akira had been injured," Pitt said. "Every rider wants to compete at this level so this is a fantastic opportunity for me, although I'd have preferred it if it hadn't come about as a result of Akira's crash. You know if Kawasaki thought I was any good and had asked me before roping in Akira. Sepang is a new circuit for me and I haven't even sat on the new ZX-RR yet, never mind ridden it, but I once rode my mates stroked Z900, that thing went like a shower of shyte so I'll be going out there to set the world on fire in my first race. "Realistically, if I can't do better than Akira I should be shot at dawn." Nothing like saying it as it is? |

Great news, and although I'm sure no-one expects much from the bike as yet, I hope he can at least impress team bosses. Not that he really needs to, considering he already has the ride and all, but it would be great motivation for next year if the bike can get instant results.
