Round 10 - WSBK 2011, Nurburgring
After a long summer break, World Superbike is back at it at the Nurburgring. Checa is still the form man. Biaggi, Checa and Melandri are on top after the first qualifying session. Nice to see Jonathan Rea back, he's 7th. Lowes, Davies and Salom topped supersport qualifying on day 1. Scassa is back in 11th. He sure has seemed to lost momentum.

I can't tell you just how disappointed I was when Haga dropped his bike after such a commanding lead. Probably would have gone down as one of his best rides in his long career instead... Anyway, well done to Sykes, shades of Chris Walker at Assen in 2006.
Gino Rea's crash in supersport has got to be one of the most bizarre I've ever seen, what was that all about? |

Race 1 was standard, Checa just riding so beautifully. Can someone tell me how he is dominating like this? I mean the team and rider are good, but the bike is from 2007! Are the other teams underachieving that badly?
Race 2 was crazy! They started dropping like flies. I feel bad for Haga as well, but he kept pushing even though he had a big lead. It was bound to happen. Congrats to Sykes and Kawi though. How bout Chaz Davies? I hope we see him on a big bike next year. |

Yamaha is an odd team, they never seem to be consistently on top on their bike year after year, they'll have one good season then change a whole lotta stuff (it seems to me) then have to start again so struggle for a year then they find some form the next year, then they change. The seem to change riders so often too. No idea what's up with Aprilia. Does anyone think Camier is going to be on an Aprilia (works or otherwise) next year? Chaz is simply awesome this year, he has barely put a foot wrong. I was watching him quite closely whenever he was on screen and I swear I only saw him miss an apex once from what I saw! Everyone was making the odd mistake here and there on every lap, nothing drastic you understand but Chaz was perfect. Stunning consistency and speed, takes a heck of a lot of concentration and to maintain it for that long too. Impressive. |

Gotta admit that watching Chaz right now is a little like watching Marquez!
As for Ducati I think they just have a rider perfectly in tune and a team that has the perfect setup on the bike, Yamaha and Aprilia can match it occasionally, but not every meeting. Most tracks these days dont need power, those that do, Monza and a few Checa has struggled to win. Doesnt matter if you can win everywhere else! |

Indeed, but not exactly Scott Russell is it! He was awesome on the ZXR!

Many thought so, but not me I am afraid, he was fairly quick, but Russell will always be the Daddy of the WSB KAwasaki's
Beating Ducati's when they were allowed to be much lighter, had carbon brakes and noone reallt understood how much of an advantage the twins had back then. Possibly the best rides I have ever seen were in the wet at Donington in 94, such a shame then that his rear tyres let him down at Phillip Island in the finale, but also strange that Goberts were fine!! |

Did Yanagawa eventually get a race win for Kwaka - cant remember, they have been poo for years. Is there a gun rider riding in a national championship anywhere who could join the team & get them up the front more regularly?

AKira won a race at the A1 ring I think, but mainly won in Japan at Sugo rounds, was perhaps the best Japanese other than Haga.

Believe it or not, I saw Melandri's name dropped as a possible for next year, since his Yamaha deal is done.
