Nicolás Vuyovich and the Toyota TC2000 team
A bittersweet day for Argentinian motorsport.
The same day that José MarÃ*a López breaks his year and a half-duck winning in GP2 at Barcelona, another younger, Nicolás Vuyovich, did a brilliant victory in his official Toyota Corolla over his teammate and former F1 racer Norberto Fontana in the TC2000 at San Juan. But, in the fly back to the team home base at Córdoba, the team plane crashed and Vuyovich and part of the official Toyota TC2000 team crew, including team manager Gustavo Ramonda and his little child, died due to the accident. Vuyovich was a young and quick driver. He was from Salta, on the North of Argentina, and entered in the TC2000 from his successful career in the Turismo Nacional, where he was crowned Champion in Class 2 in 2000 and in Class 3 during 2002. I remember when I saw his first TC2000 win, at Buenos Aires, when he magnifically blocked all the attempts of Guillermo Ortelli. Almost the same did yesterday, blocking Fontana and the rest managing to his second -and last- win. Now the Toyota team is in disgrace, surely Norberto Fontana should be at charge of the remains of the team and, with his experience managing his own Turismo Carretera team, give Toyota the way to return into success in the TC2000 future. A sad, sad day. Rest in peace, Nicolás Vuyovich and the Toyota TC2000 crew. So sad. I didn't know anything about your friend, just what you posted. He beat some pretty heavy-hitters this weekend in his last race. He was indeed a talented young driver.
He is another of the many drivers killed in plane crashes. It seems that race car drivers and musicians are more frequently killed in airplane crashes then anyone else.... Rest in peace, Nicolás. |

Partly because they spend more time flying than most people. A real tragedy. RIP |

One year has passed from that tragic plane crash...
...they should not be forgotten. RIP Nico Vuyovich, Gustavo and Julio Ramonda, Hugo Suárez, and the pilots of the aircraft. |
