Speedcafe - Story supported ad site!

So is it just me or is Speedcafe 98% ads/sponsorships these days with stories fitted somewhere inbetween?

Its getting a bit ridiculous, everything seems to have a sponsor logo, I reckon I can see a hundred logos on the front page!

Admittedly good on them for making a news site that clearly pays but damn they've whored it out.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
agreed

their "platinum" sponsor's teams seem to get a fair run in the news pages also

As long as the news stays genuine rather than advertorial I'm ok with the ads. And some of the revenue is ending up in the right place... like on Murph's rear wing. http://www.speedcafe.com/2012/01/27/...8-supertourer/ ... so they are giving something back to the sport.

Malcolm.

Yes, but it's likely that this logo is there in return for favourable coverage on the website, rather than actual cash!

It's a site run by a PR firm for PR purposes. Trouble is, theres not much in thevway of alternatives...

The ads are what pays the bills. Other alternative is to put up a pay wall and as we saw with MNews not guaranteed to work. Think we should be greatful for what we have.

Speedcafe does seem to be a good source for news, is often 1st to break it and is far more accurate than some of the other alternatives. Remember AA's exclusive last year that all of HRT's key sponsors were abandoning ship yet they all remain.

And has forced the V8 site to up its game. Remember a few years ago all its news was just team PR releases.

TOTALLY AGREE !!!!!!!

Atleast the page can load up a "touch" easier now with all the page sponsor crap on it.

Have no issue with ads, but surely you can see that Speedcafe has gone completely over the top with ads everywhere?

Some people would whinge if they won lotto!

I think its a great site and someone has to pay for it, I'm glad it's companies who advertise and not me.

Since the demise of MeN, this site remains the only serious local online alternative. V8X and VESA try their hardest for new news, but it isnt at the same intensity. Having said that... I am unsure that since the demise of MeN that Speedcafe.com hasnt reduced their efforts for new news too.

A competitor in this space would be good fun to go see... but its a tricky business model... relying on the largesse of either subscribers (and we saw that fail in MeN) or site sponsors (and its in complaint for excess...)...

Lets see if anyone else steps up to the plate

So... who is a fan of their new .co.nz website? It seems the Aussie .com or .com.au isnt good enough to hold NZ-based stories in their entirety any more, we now get a snippet, then need to launch a new website with the .co.nz thingumy so as to read the full story

I dont know about you, but the various NZ series have always been kinda like an extension of the Aussie series... not totally sure why they are now hived off & isolated.

A new way to force the reader to see many new and wonderful sponsors perhaps?

You guys want everything for nothing...

How do you suppose the site(s) continue? What's that? You'll pay a subscription!

Motorsport eNews proved that wrong I'm afraid. So for now you are just going to have to put up with a few adverts.

Speedcafe is not perfect but it is way better than anything we have had so far in Australia, a few too many Kelly Racing press releases about nothing really but some good stuff in between though.

I am equally annoyed that Autosport.com has put a '50 free views' restriction on their website, that you must register (i.e. pay..) if you want to access the site.

If I wait long enough, Speedcafe will pinch the story & replicate it...

OK so ads all over the site and relevant newsletters I can handle but now I get an unsolicited email with nothing but an advertisement for Bledisloe Cup tickets?

Nice one Speedcafe.
