Geez, when you have to explain them, they're niot funny. :-)

Letterman is part owner of a CART/OWRS team. CART is the arch-enemy of the IRL. IRL races are all on ovals and they never turn right.

The team he's part owner of has a car in the IRL as well...but I fully agree with his statement and it has nothing to do with the open-wheel war. Real racing involves both turning left and right.

If it's any consolation, I knew you were joking.
Actually, I thought your reply was funny and appropriately ironic.
I wonder how many people watching caught the irony of #9...probably not many

Thanks MLM, I thought I was losing my natural, God given gift of comedic genious!

I felt like a comedian doing my best stand-up routine, and nobody laughed! Tough crowd, tough crowd...

I thought it a naive post, until I looked at who posted it. Got a chuckle out of me, I doubt if it went over many heads.

Thanks mac, you may find this hard to believe, but there are times when even I can be naive!

Not the post. I meant to write "I wonder how many people WATCHING THE SHOW got #9" (I forgot to add "watching the show"..sorry).
Not many I'm afraid (of the general public watching the show).
But the post...

It was quite a true & amusing statement as well as being a not to subtle dig at the IRL.

I'd consider the first THREE all being hits at the IRL...

Letterman rules. I catch it when ever I can, which isnt easy given that in Australia on free to air he gets buried in timeslots like 12:20am and the like. Caught this one though, and laughed a plenty

mitchie, Letterman's on at 11:30/23:30 until 12:30 am here in the US (Eastern Time). So, there isn't too much of a difference, time-slot wise.
BTW, welcome! Give that person a Foster's!

Letterman is a little evil to catch in Australia let me tell you! But it is allways worth watching!

ps: don't give the man a Fosters, give him a *real* beer!

I've never had Fosters but they have several ads on TV here ("Fosters. Australian for beer" ) and I know they sponsor some races in Aussieland.

I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I don't know what's considered good beer. I've had friends tell me Corona isn't that great, either.

Anyone ever catch Letterman's Top 10 reasons to get up early to watch F1 races from 11 years ago?
