Flash Photography Problem!
Iv'e had some problems with pictures taken inside exhibition halls - mainly to do with people's faces and the general un-sharpness of the pictures. Using either the camera's own little pop-up flash or using a Canon 430 flash unit...about 80% of the pictures were unusable due to being "fuzzy" with little, if no depth of field...then some would be spot on and that was without changing anything. It is a real problem (and have seen this on other poeples flash pictures) and would love to know whats going wrong or is it just that the lens is not up to scratch? Anybody else had this problem and how did they overcome it?? Cheers.

Can you post some examples so we can see the problem?
I did have a problem indoors as I have covered a lot of shows for picture agencies, I found the problem was the lens I was using a sigma 28-70 F2.8 which to be honest I didnt think was very sharp I then got a 28-135 canon IS and since have had no problems. |

Baz, can you provide details of camera and flash settings used? Could it be that you would benefit from using the 'Multi' function on the flash (if it has one), can you set the camera to fire a pre flash before the shot is taken. Is the exposure correct? Use of the pop-up flash may be affected by the size of lens being used

In low light situations with slow lenses (F4) the autofocus has problems picking a spot to focus on. I put the camera on manual (Focus, speed, aperature) and let the automatic flash get the correct exposure.
