Mallory photography questions
I'm shooting at Mallory on Sunday, for some Formula Ford website...
Anyway, I've shot there a couple of times before, but just have a couple of questions about shooting positions etc. I've been doing endurance races lately, so I need to maximise my time, they've only got 35 minutes total. For practice I was thinking of going to the corner near the Esses (can't remember what it's called, where the bike chicane is...), and get some pans, and head-ons there. Is this doable? For the race I was going to get the start from the outside of the hairpin, and then leg it down the hill to get the flag. Mainly though I'm wondering if the qualifying spot I've thought of is a good one, or perhaps I should try somewhere else? |

i tend to shoot from the inside of the hairpin, if you come back from the marshall's post a bit you can get the esses, devil's elbow and then shoot down towards the line

Try the inside of the esses. Go to the area behind the scrutineering bay/petrol pumps, some nice shots can be achieved here. If you are fleet of foot you can nip over to the area on the inside which is the braking area for the esses. Not the best shot attached, but its all I have on my PC at work! As for the race I would be tempted to start from Gerards and work backwards to the finish line. Hope this helps

With it being such a short lap its difficult to find a "new" angle to approach the race from. With accreditation a good spot is always the Devils Elbow as you can catch the action through the Esses and swing round for the exit of the hairpin...but of course everybody else also tends to be there and if its sunny shooting back towards the Esses can be a little awkward.
Shooting from the spectator side at the Elbow can produce some appealing shots but you have to be well on the ball to catch them as they tend to hurtle through and appear before you know it. There's often action all round the circuit but more often than not itll be the other end from the one you're at |

That's the angle I was thinking of for qualifying, if you can get a little lower down, and further round... can get some head ons, pans, and rear shots of them going up the hill. |
