It’s proving difficult to maintain the number of competitors, for many reasons, mainly financial,
also popularity of track days and the fact that potential entrants have many ways to spend their leisure time.

The Scottish Motor Racing Club therefore finds itself, like other clubs mentioned in discussions on this forum,
in a difficult position when trying to balance its’ accounts.
It has joined with Knockhill Motor Sports Club to hold three two-day events at Knockhill Circuit,
in order to provide an excellent weekend’s racing whilst reducing the financial exposure of staging their own event.
Similarly, there will be co-operation with Darlington Motor Club at their meeting at Croft in May.
Also, a joint event with racers from Ireland at Anglesey in August provides variety for drivers and, hopefully, financial success.

Despite all the forgoing, Classic racing in Scotland saw more entries last year than for several seasons. Let’s hope this continues in 2024.

I'd seen that my friend Richard Merrell was bringing his Alfa out for its first outing of the year.

You really do get great mixed grids up there....

Andrew Graham overcame wet/damp weather to win both races on 21st April, at an excellent event with a great selection of cars.
Close competition was maintained throughout the field and the conditions were a leveller of performance, especially in race one.

Fiesta driver, Michael Anderson, was quick to exit his rolled car in race two, thankfully avoiding serious injury.
Hopefully he will be back in action soon and all present wished him well.

Class Winners
A: Iain Mitchell, Vauxhall Nova, Both races
B: Alasdair Coates, Escort RS2000, race one
B: Craig Houston, Lotus Excel, race two
E: Andrew Graham, TR7V8, both races
G: Jimmy Crow, Scimitar Coupe, both races
I: Adam Kinmond, Rover Vitesse, both races
XR2: Paul Green, both races

Sponsor, Edinburgh Watch Company, Driver of The Day award winner was MGBV8 driver Barry Eastaugh.

The next event is at Croft on 18th &19th May.

Malcolm Smith should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Two excellent races, combined with a pizza evening on Saturday, added up to a highly enjoyable visit to Croft for the Scottish Classics.

Races were combined with Classes A&F of the Darlington Motor Club Sports & Saloons, providing a variety of competition for all.
With regard to the Scottish Classics, Philip Russell was the victor in both races, Andy Graham coming second each time.
Alastair Baptie was third in race one but was unable to start the second due to his car having an oil leak.
John Kinmond retired from race one but had more luck in the second, with third place. Keiron Baillie and Adam Kinmond were fourth and fifth respectively in each race.
Completing the top six in race one was Barry Eastaugh in an MGBV8, Andrew Kinmond’s Triumph powered TVR just ahead of the MG in race two.

Sponsor, Edinburgh Watch Company, Driver of The Day was Iain Mitchell.

Knockhill, on 7th July, is the venue for the next two rounds of the championship.

Adam Kinmond, Rover Vitesse (#64), won the driver of the day award, as well as taking two class wins on 7th July.
Championship sponsor, Edinburgh Watch Company proprietor, Jonathan Gilbert,
presented these and all other class awards at the end of day of sunshine and showers.

Andy Graham continued his winning form at Knockhill with victory in race one.
The Kinmond Rover team were second and third, John from Adam.
First time out in an MGBV8 was fourth finisher Ewan Anderson just ahead of Colin Calder and Craig Houston.
Championship leader Iain Mitchell was seventh, from Niki Dickson, Paul Green and Michael Longstaffe.
Final three to finish were Duncan O’Neill, Richard Cooper and Mark Wynn, TVR Vixen 1600.
Unfortunately, the Triumph powered TVR of Andrew Kinmond and XR2 of Sonny Gray failed to finish,
and an oil leak prevented Ian Morton from racing.

Anderson made a blistering start to race two and held second place, behind Graham, for the first three laps.
Both Rovers passed him and at the finish we had the same top four as race one.
Houston, Mitchell, Dickson and Green followed in positions five to eight.
Longstaffe was ninth from Gray, Wynn, Cooper and O’Neill.

Graham had fastest lap in both races and remains second in the championship behind Mitchell,
Longstaffe is third. Paul Green leads the XR2s from O’Neill and Gray.

Next event is at Anglesey on 3rd and 4th August.
