Dakar Rally
Well its that time of year again. The Dakar Rally is here again, this years event has a record entry. Once again Colin McRae will be there in his Nissan and he will be up againest all the usual suspects. It looks like its going to be a great event again. So I thought I'd better start a Daker thread, so here it is.
BTW the offical Daker website can be found at:- http://www.dakar.com/2005/us/index.html Last edited by rdjones; 30 Dec 2004 at 21:05. |

It is interesting that McRae wanted to make sure that he was up front to avoid the dust early on in Africa (30th Dec Autosport). I didn't realise it was that much of an issue. You imagine they get spread out well once the big stages start, but then the dust probably hangs around for a long time.

Stage3
Everyone is now catching the ferries after completing the short special this morning.
Just for information (if this effects the final results in any way I'll be shocked) David Fretigne won again on the 2WD Yamaha in the bikes; whilst Colin McRae won his first stage of the rally and third overall. Both of the stage winners also lead overall into Africa. Other news - Alfie Cox is on painkillers for inflamed ligaments after his tumble on stage 1. Not the best start to the rally, hopefully it'll clear quickly otherwise he'll be struggling when the longer stages hit... |

Says Peter Brock, on the subject of Robby Gordon's exploits so far:
"“Not too bad for a “beginner”, huh? Robby is just flat incredible in the dirt… you just can’t appreciate this guy’s talent in NASCAR, where the performance of the cars is so limited. But go down to Baja and watch him..It’s just amazing. I think he may surprise a few people in Africa." And Africa just may surprise him. Baja sprinty things (with a cosy service halt every 50km) are one thing, so is a quick squirt around the local beach in Barcelona - two weeks in the desert are something else entirely. |

Robby Gordon has looked quick in every motorsport discipline he has tried... sadly there isnt a lot of evidence of staying power
