Are Touring Cars that far removed from Road Cars?

DTM - Closer to prototypes
 NGTC - More removed than S2000, but less removed than Supertouring S2000 - Close, but very highly modified V8 Supercars - Nowhere near as close to road cars as you may think V8 Superstars - Possibly closer than NGTC I can't vote on the poll because ''touring cars'' is too vague a statement. |

You can do a flat bottom at home, but every rock in the world will clank on the bottom of it, you want that? They remove all the sound deadening, again like rocks and pebbles? 200-230hp N/A is not all that street-able but having said that, you can get 300hp N/A at the wheels from a TSX/RSX 2.4 swap. |

Not overlooking that fact that V8 Supercars are all space frame these days with just some Ford or Holden body panels bolted on.
Touring cars are vastly different from road cars. I have a 1994 BMW 320i Supertourer and I think the shell is about that only thing that you would find on a road going version. Different engine, gearbox, diff, steering & suspension, fuel system, dash & controls... |

Super 2000 and Superstars are perfectly acceptable. NGTC and TC2000 with spec engines aren't pure touring cars, but economy and parity forces organisers to use them. DTM, Top Race and Solution F can't be considered real touring cars, they are silhouettes - prototypes with lookalike bodies.
