I am trying to track down any information on ASD racing cars. I have recently bought what i think started life as a F4 / FF2000 car and rebuildng it for a new life in Sprints. Any information would be gratefully recieved.

I remember a few ASDs racing FF1600 at Brands in the late 70s and early 80s.
I think they were based nearby. The name Michael Hills rings bells as a driver, but I don't know if it was his firm. I don't recall any in FF2000 though it wouldn't have been impossible to adapt one. Chris |

ASD memories
Rich, three instantly spring to mind.
a) there was a 500cc running in the 1990s which I seem to remember was a ghastly shade of yellow. b) There was a father and son pairing bought one which both crashed on a regular basis the worst of which was at Loton where the car ended up inverted on one of the old concrete bases on the straight. c) On my last visit to the sprint at Blackpool one managed to pinball its way from the chicane for about 100 yards. It was taken away in four not so large bits. I'll try to dig out some more info and post it later - probably in a week or two. |

I remember racing in FF2000 in 198o against an ASD driven by Allan Hebb. Will try to dig out my old results sheets and see if I can find further information. The cars were certainly built down in Kent and I remember them building a replica 250F!

Was it not father and daughter. Richard and Amanda George. I think they owned the car that Rich now has. ASD telephone number is 01622 862195. They are still around and make an Aston Martin DBR2 replica. AB Last edited by Arty B; 12 Jan 2005 at 15:45. |

Father and SON
It certainly wasn't the Georges. The pairing who had the big Loton shunt had run a Westfield previously and when the ASD was totalled they went back to the Westie.
Not got the time to look it up at the moment but will get to the bottom of it next week. Boom Bang a Bang Megashed Teaboy! a.k.a. the Mad Ferret!!!!!!!!!! |

You may well be correct. There were two on the hills at one time. The Georges certainly had one.

I am now finding more out about my car. It is Chassis number T18 001 and was the Richard George Car, later owned by Roger Moran and Dave Wilson. I know about Mark Ferbrache's car (as i am God farther to his daughter) Mark is currently living in Perth Australia. Marks car was an FF1600 car that he ran with the 1600 Vauxhall but had very different suspension. That car is for sale in Manchester at the mo. My car looks like it has modified bodywork, very Argo JM9 looking.
Does anyone have any photo's of ASD's Cheers Rich |

Clive Goodman and Alan Dovey had a pair of ASD's which Clive modified to fit bike engines various two stroke motors As far as I know Alan still has one of these with 500cc Suzuki Gamma fitted .Clive sold the remains of the other car to Richard Neale who modified/updated it and fitted 600cc Honda CBR engine and got it running quite well . Richard was selling this car and the historic Smith F3 car he also had so not sure where it is now.

I own a Formula Ford ASD Chassis 003.
I have owned it for 12 years, and it will race this year in the Walter Hayes Trophy with a 'star' driver behind the wheel. I believe this to be the only true Formula Ford spec. ASD around. But if not, please let me know! My email address is: James.Beckett@brdc.co.uk Telephone: 01327 850925 ASD are still going - and still fabricating ! My car, according to Bob Eggington, is the ex. Michael Hills car. |

The Jeff Southgate ASD was originally owned by Nigel Southgate, his brother, it was raced in Monoposto for a time. Nigel lives quite close to me, I'll see if I can track his number for you.

The chassis from the rollhoop aftwards has now been rebuilt. Slightly different shape to original to accomodate a Yamaha engine and slightly shorter. Front suspension all in place, although the jury is still out on the front springs as we think they may be a bit too heavy. Only running it will tell though. Let you know how we get on. Dunc |
