Herta to get Franchitti's seat (unconfirmed)
This is internet rumor but seems logical:
At Michael Andretti's powersports open house, he was reported to have answered one questioner by saying that Bryan Herta would be in Franchitti's car, not John Andretti. I heard something similar being said in the NASCAR radio at Infineon. That John Andretti is not in the running is pretty much public knowledge. |

I thought Herta just signed with PKmotorspots in CART???
He ran for them at Laguna last week and at Portland yesterday... If this is true, he has been hopping around like a flea on a hot rock for the past two months... |

Ummm....latest rumour is that the second PK seat may go to Mika Salo rather than Herta... Salo was hanging out with PK Racing in Portland... Then again, Herta did say a second seat with him along side Papis was a posibility. Who knows...

Bryan didn't drive for PK at Portland. I hope he gets the Andretti-Green ride and goes out and wins a few races. Just for everyone who says he can't compete on ovals.

Tim,
Herta had a one race deal with PK for Laguna Seca. Max Papis raced at Portland. Neither had much success. The car is not very good. Bryan had a very positive Indy test and race at Texas with AGR. All parties were happy. The AGR car is one that can run up front. The PK car is not. But most important, both cars are #27. Coincidence? |

A second PK racing entry, to go alongside Papis' obviously wouldn't be 27, but it's still amusing.
I think Herta would be better to take this drive, if he's offered it. He's only missed 5 of the 16 races, so would have every chance of finishing in the championship top 10 if he hits form, although ovals ahve never been his strong point. The PK car is indeed not compettive, that Bryan could only finish 11th at Laguna, a cirucit where his record is inexplicably excellent, says it all. |

Looks like the second PK Racing seat will go to Mika Salo, so Herta will probably be with AGR... there is a rumour however that Herta's asking price is too steep for AGR.

Since when AGR have financial problems?
OK, they have destroyed not less than 5 cars up to now, but they keep the most sponsor-backed team in IRL |

I wouldn't say they had financial problems, just they don't think Herta is worth 1 and a half million

racer69, you are correct. My guess is Herta will sign for under $1M.
AGR is saving a bundle with Franchitti collecting his salary from the insurance company instead of AGR. Although it is said Honda was actually paying Dario's salary. My guess is AGR has less money available from Honda and Motorola to pay than what they gave Franchitti, but not zero. Expect a settlement soon, as Honda and Motorola don't want their car to miss races, and Herta wants a paycheck. |

From an article by Miller over at rpm.ESPN.com;
Bryan Herta, who substituted for Dario Franchitti earlier this month at Texas and finished fifth in his IRL debut, has been named Franchitti's replacement at Andretti-Green Racing for the remainder of 2003. Franchitti opted to have surgery on his back rather than risking permanent injury. |
