I wasn't aware that applications were open. I don't see anything on the ACO site.
Have I missed the boat / eurotunnel? |

The registration doesn't start for a couple weeks. I asked the question the other day.

As I'm going to apply as a flaggy for the first time, how realistic is it that I might be considered?
I've done WEC, Blancpain Endrance and a number of other endurance events before. |

Andy - you will be considered, but the system is, how can I put this, ... French. You can only be a trainee, a marshal or a post chief. If you just want to flag, that would be an on post discussion.
Officially the only trainees accepted are French trainees and the chefs de post have to be completely fluent in French - AFAIK there are only 2 non- French chefs de poste - one Belgian - who was the first non French licence holder to be a chef de poste and one mongrel (I hope he hears that I called him this) who has lived in France for many years. read also http://www.marshalsguide.com/index.p...ere_-_Contacts so, The website is in... French. and You will have to get a user name and password from the ACO before you can use it. So first you will have to send a copy of your MSA card and the permit to marshal abroad to the ACO. Now you can access the website, you do not volunteer by grade, as we do in Britain, but by post (officially called secteurs). That's why it helps to know somebody who goes to Le Mans already. If you do not know which post you want to do. Probably best to let Virginie at the ACO know when you first make contact to be authorised to use the website. She will probably suggest a post. Last year was a bit of a muddle because it was the first year of a new system. Each post has a limit on it's number of marshals. This lead to marshals being bumped off the popular posts and being allocated to the less popular. The end result was that some of the posts - especially those on the straights were short on numbers. That's right - not enough people volunteered. ** disclaimers ** 1 - On the MSA permit to marshal abroad application there is a box to tick if you want to marshal at Le Mans - I have heard some say that this has not worked for them 2 - this is what works for me and many marshals I know. There are many more British marshals who go that may take a different approach. 3 - our post would appear to have enough already |

I've already requested my MSA "overseas" form and ticked the "Le Mans" option! I'll wait for that to land and then look at sending copies of my details to the ACO Would the address below be the correct address to send copies of my MSA license and "overseas letter" to: Do people e-mail them their details that will allow them to obtain a username and password? Andy, best to email PDF copies of your approval letter, license and request to Virginie at the ACO instead of mailing them in hard copy. That's faster and more secure, and you young bucks have NO IDEA how much easier this is now than it was even ten years ago. (Yeah, I know, "You kids get off my lawn," LOL.)
Here's the address: Mme Virginie DESOEUVRE TOUCHARD Secrétaire Administrative Sport Compétitions Tel: 02.43.40.24.28 Fax: 02.43.40.24.25 Mail: v.desoeuvre@lemans.org Looking forward to upholding my status as the senior Canadian in the commissaire ranks -- up to last year I was the only Canadian. keke |

Andy - Virginie at the ACO is very helpful, keep your english "proper" and simple and she can translate it - or use French if you are fluent enough. Let her know it is your first attempt at le mans and that perhaps a post where some english is spoken would be best. I'd give it a least a week from today, as this is probably going to be Virginie's most hectic week of the year apart from race week. |

...or 40+ years, when foreign post was - difficult!
Had a different problem this afternoon. Let me get as far as submitting copy of licence and then it kept rejecting as unable to read file! Will be talking to Virginie in a minute. |

Despite still getting the error message I have now had a reply from ACO
" So something is working! Just wait till the next mail I suppose |

that would be the correct translation and it may be where Virginie will park your application until the closing date and numbers re known elsewhere. But the only way to be sure is to ask her what you should do if this is your first visit.
