Factory Ferrari 575 GTC
Just read on ALMS.com that this is the first time in over 30 years that Ferrari have built a factory race car for Le Mans. Too bad it is not a prototype for overalls, but the 575 GTC is just as bad ass!! And guess who is going to pilot the car?? Danny Sullivan. It is be 10 years from 2004 LM since he was last there in 1994!! The first race for the Factory Ferrari 575 GTC and Danny is at the 12 hours of Sebring 2004. This is the best news I have read since Bentley's announcment of their return to LM 3 years ago!!

Well not to read into a too much. 575GTC to GTS was like 333SP(which BTW is within the "30 year"...also there were the factory built 360GT/GTC) to WSC. Still not factory run car. As the car will be run by a Dutch team called Barron Connor Racing(apparently a full season effort for ALMS).
Not to take anything away from 575GTC, as it won its debut race as run by JMB at Estoril. Impressive new effort as a whole by Ferrari/N-Technology to build a GTS car. Albeit competing free of ballast against the ballasted up Prodrive 550GTS... |

I thought Barron Connor was running Sebring and the LMES/LM's only?

I didn't count the possible 575 entries for LM 2004... someone did ? The Vettes will have a tough job to claim a new class victory...

Yes indeed Fab, I wonder if after 2005 whether or not GM will stay in GTS. If they cant win then I dont see them sticking around really.

Yes Graham, but beyond 2005? Sure 2005 they will be there, but if the cars cant compete with cars like the Maserati's and 575's and Murcielagos I dont think they will stick around, do u?

Yep I do - there's no reason to suppose that the C6 won't be as big a step up for Corvette as the 575 may prove to be for Ferrari over the 550

now DC needs to balls up and bring back a purpose built GTS racer (with appropriate road coupe as well of course... ;-) to retake the LeMans throne... the Viper has done so incredibly all these years while STILL being in very crude stages of design! the intitial DC effort into developing the original GTS-R was about 3 million dollars. i believe prodrive spent well over that?! if a proper effort would be put into making an already awesome starting platform a proper racer, then the Viper would be back atop the podium on a regular basis... all that said, i am VERY excited about seeing al of these new cars in there as well, the AM, maserati, lambo...they all give me chills in the best way... (besides, it's more chances that the vettes have to lose ;-)

In the article on the ALMS site there is a hint of a possiblity for further races added for this team in 2004 (maybe Petit?).
Quote from ALMS article: After Sebring, the team will return to Europe to race in the new Le Mans Endurance Series, but Sullivan said the possibility exists of adding one or two races to the team's schedule later in the year. "We can't commit to too much right now," said Sullivan. "We just want to get it going first. We've got our work cut out for us." |

Some more info:
Barron Conner Racing is a co-operation between John Bosch and American invester William C. ("Chip") Conner. One Ferrari will be driven by John Bosch and Danny Sullivan, who's a close friend of William Conner. The 2nd car will be driven by pay drivers. Bosch said he was already approached by some Italian en Dutch drivers. According to Bosch they invested already 2.5 million Euro and the running costs for the season are 3.5 million Euro. The team consists out of 24 people and is assisted by Italian Ferrari engineers. Bosch is a really Ferrari fan and owns several cars (including Schumacher's F1 car from 2000) cars from Maranello. He's not only a collector but uses also the cars to race. |

Danny Sullivan is my age! What on earth????
Well, I'm looking forward to seeing the car, and maybe Sullivan will surprise me. |

absolutely- the car materials themselves probably isn't too much more than a standard GT, i bet the personnel are the big drain- GT cars get sold from factories to Privateers- from there they do the Data Aquisition and some minor development and chassis setup, even tyres.
GTS cars (especially factory derived ones) have sooo many people involved i bet the payroll is over a million dollars. To think the ferrari 333sp was sold with a spares package for 1Million US (alain deCadenet- Victory by design) |

That's true, look at the Audi example. Takes money to be competative and we should be applauding financial input into sportscar racing.

CART costs 5-6 million a year for a single car. Why is 4 million for two cars ridiculous in a professional series?
