93 Swift V 94 Swift V 97 Ray (Kent)
Which would be the good bet to buy?? Or is there a 'better' alternative?
Pros and cons, Would they all be conversions? Any advice most welcome, Cheers, |

Having raced both the 93 and 94 Swift I would stay away from the 93 as it was a horrible chassis. The 94/95 is a really good chassis which is good enough to run at the front of any championship. The 92 Swift is also a good car, perhaps better than the 94/95. The 92 has been one of the most successful cars in modern FF1600 times.
We now run a 2007 Ray which is a really well thought out chassis. I have not seen the 97 however, and these are certainly a bit rarer, but I would imagine it is there or thereabouts and better than the 93 Swift. Matt Rivett won the Castle Combe championship in one last year. |

I'd back the Swift 92 suggestion also, properly designed for a 1600, not tainted by the Zetec. Altho to my mind the RF90 is the best looking FF1600 ever.

The Ray 97 is a 1600 car, built to 1600 regs that were applicable at the time. It is possible to convert to Zetec however. It was the first all pushrod car produced by Ray. Whilst it may look bulky it is on or near the weight limit and like the current Ray's is a well thought out bit of kit. Spares are readily available from the works and are not exorbitantly priced. Like all current FF1600's it is a stiff chassis that works very effectively. Definitely worth considering IMHO.....

Or keep the alloy bellcranks.
Nobody has been able to define the difference between bellcranks and rockers as far as I am aware. |

Ive owned both the '93 and '95 Swift, Both were very good cars and had excellent history with top engines. I had my ex Topi Serjala '95 Swift for 3 years and I loved it. By far the best 1600 I have driven. This was 1 of 7 built as a kent.
A couple of years later I bought a ex Brett Francis- PA Motorsport '93 Swift which started out as a Zetec. A good car but I didn't really get on with it. There is also a bit more room in the '95. Goughy. Do you still have the '95 Swift? What about the engine, Apollo1? |

We have sold the 95 Swift although we did hire it back from Bernard Baxter for the WHT this year.
Not sure of the history of the car, but we bought if from Paul Gerrard in 2005. It might be the same car as this was a Kent built chassis which I believe was the ex works car from 1995. I am pretty sure when Paul owned the car it did have an Apollo engine, but this has been re-blocked following a failure at the 2005 WHT. It sounds to me like the same car. We also has another 1995 Swift before this which was a converted Zetec spec, which I last heard was with Morgan Dempsey in Ireland. |

And of course, being made out of alloy makes the performance of the car sooooo much better. We put steel 'items' on our 95 Swift and they just looked pants really. Still, £100 well spent. |

With regard to the Ray 97 for sale on Ebay, why don't you speak to the seller? You might just get the information you need.....from the person selling the car
