2006 Homestead Weekend Thread
It is windy (gusty 15-25 mph) and cool there today (high 60s)
A cool front is passing through and there is a 40% chance of rain. Both Sat. & Sun. are supposed to be nice, but cool for Florida at this time of year... THey should be very fast...probably similar to what they ran earlier in the month in testing. |

Dixon topped the charts in the first session at 214.7 mph, with Hornish a tick or two behind.
IIRC, Kanaan Herta and Franchitti also were in the Top Six They take the track again in split sessions in approximately 90 min. from thetime of this post |

Chassis choice
I didn't realise till looking at the times now that Rahal team is the only team with the Panoz chassis.
Can anyone explain ? is this good or bad for them ? Financial decision perhaps ? confused J |

I thought that Fernandez/Super Aguri was racing in the Panoz chassis as well....
Ganassi will run Dallaras on ovals, but will run the Panoz on road courses. |

Aguri decided to completely switch over to Dallara with his team.
Delphi Fernandez will be running both, they opted for the Dallara this race. Their Indy entry has the #8 as a Dallara and #8T as a Panoz. I wasn't sure what chassis they'd show up with this week and that's why I said Buddy Rice for fastest Panoz in the pickem. |

Is there anything out of the ordinary with these times?
Is there anywhere to follow the sessions via live-timing? On the IRL page here, but cannot seem to find it anywhere... |

Penske in front by a hideous margin after qualifying!
Should close up a bit hopefully tomorrow, though. |

The grid's down to just 17 now though due to the sad news that Dana passed away, and that Patrick and Rice are pulling out.

Rica was in the race...and pulled oiut do to fire- was this a self funded non Rahal sanctioned car- the colors were right just no sponsors..
so far this weekend started great- IRL seemed stronger than ever, and then the Paul Dana Sadness. what a set back- what tragedy for the Dana's and the IRL and OpenWheel in general. |

Yes, it most certainly isn't the way to start a season. Brings back memories of how NASCAR started in 2001 and how MotoGP started in 2003.

I keep having to remind myself Wheldon is driving for Chip!
Franchitti really does not suit the Klein Tools AGR car! |
