Tecno F2
Can someone please help in unravelling the history of an F2 Tecno please?
The car I'm told is a 1971 Tecno F2 (model TF71 I believe). The chassis number is 808 and the owner says it was raced by drivers such as Francois Cevert in 1970. The complete history of this chassis I have from the current owner is: RACE’S Tecno Chassis n. 808 -13.09.1970 V Tulln-Langenlebarn Tecno Racing Team Driver : Francois Cevert -27.09.1970 IX Gran Premio CittÃ* di Imola Tecno Racing Team Driver: Francois Cevert -11.10.1970 III Preis Von Baden Tecno Racing Team Driver: Francois Cevert -04.04.1971 V Deutschland Trophae Racing Team Iris Driver: Nanni Galli -15.05.1971 IV Grand Premio De Madrid Racing Team Iris Driver: Nanni Galli -13.06.1971 I Gran Premio Madunina ( Vallelunga) Racing Team Iris Driver: Claudio Francisci -20.06.1971 XII Gran Premio della Lotteria di Monza Racing Team Iris Driver: Claudio Francisci -27.06.1971 XIX Grand Prix de Rouen Racing Team Iris Driver: Claudio Francisci -25.07.1971 X Gran Premio di Imola Racing Team Iris Driver: Claudio Francisci -12.09.1971 I Jochen Rindt Tulln-Langenlebarn Racing Team Iris Driver: Nanni Galli -10.10.1971 XXIII Gran Premio di Roma Racing Team Iris Driver: Luigi Fontanesi -31.10.1971 I Tornero Brasilero Formule 2 Racing Team Iris Driver: Claudio Francisci I've trawlled Google and can find results that shows Cevert raced a 1970 (not 1971) Tecno in late 1970 but for the life of me can't find any chassis numbers to tie this car to the results above. Can anyone throw light on this please as I'm considering buying the car but want to be sure it's history is accurate so I can obtain FIA papers. Many thanks Matt |

I think that this may get more views and responses on the main forum where I am moving it to. Obviously, if the thread develops into a full discussion on F2Tecnos, with chassis history details, then it will become a prime candidate for the Chassis Archive.

The above agrees with the information in the Formula 1 Register Fact Book. By the way, it says that the car "was destroyed by fire after a practice shunt" at Interlagos on its final appearance 31.10.1971...........

ive always had my doubts oiver the many cevert cars that seem to be around i can see hoim racing a 70 and 71 model but not having 4 cars maybe its time to create a list to stop the BS that floating around |

Perhaps if a list was created it may stop the flow of BS.
1970 season, F2 . Tecno 68 , T00270. Tecno 68 , T00284. Tecno 69 , T00306. Tecno 69 , T00314. Tecno 69 , T00402. Tecno 70 , T00804. Tecno 70 , T00806. Tecno 70 , T00808. 1971 season F2. Tecno 68 , T00284. Tecno 68 , T00286. Tecno 70 , T00806. Tecno 70 , T00808. Tecno 70 , T00810. Tecno 71 , T00712. Tecno 71 , T00714. Tecno 71 , T00716. Tecno 71 , T00720. Tecno 71 , T00722. Tecno 71 , T00740. Of these chassis , 806 and 808 are used by Cevert in 1970 ,and 712 , 714, 720 and 722 are used by Cevert in 1971. So that's 6 chassis that were used by him , some chassis much more than others , but they can all claim Cevert as having driven them. All above from F1R record book. Bryan. |

Respect to you
Tecno did a nice car with campagnola made uprights !! i was told tecno fixed chassis number to the rear upright is that true ?? If cevert did not have the engine problems in the 2nd half of 71 season he would have won f2 c/ship by miles as he had won most the early races then they had many engine failures i recall they did their own motors have you read the drive it f2 book? there are about 5 f2 tecnos in Uk and a few f3 cars there are a few in france as well i do not think there is much difference between 70 71 f2 cars apart from the addition of the little wings The f1 car is now running in Italy with 12 cl engine and a lola 290 with 12cyl tecno engine fitted!! |

1971 season, not the full story but you will get the drift [ pun intended]
284, Roland Binder. 286, Alfred Amweg , only one race. 806, mostly, Arturo Merzario , but also Spartaco Dino. 808, Nanni Galli , Claudio Francisci . 810 , only , Helmut Gall. Now the fun begins , 712 , Cevert , Cevert Cevert , untill Jarama 16-5-71 , tyre deflated and he stuck it in the Armco , car never seen again that year at least in F2. 714 , Depaillier , once , then Nanni Galli , then Jean Pierre Jabouille a few times then Cevert at least twice. 716 , Depaillier at least 6 times , but run at least once by Tino[ Ernesto] Brambilla , then Depaillier again. 720 , Cevert from 13-6-71 on, sometimes. 722 , Jabouille , then Cevert a few times then Jabouille again. 740 , Jean Blanc all season. No wonder there are so many ex Cevert cars out there, t is because they can nearly all say so and be correct. His two main cars are , 712 and 722. Bryan. |

i do not think there is much difference between 70 71 f2 cars apart from the addition of the little wings QUOTE]. The late 1970 and 1971 cars were quite different from the earlier ones. Main differences were split front radiators, rear oil tank, revised chassis and suspension pick up points, different bodywork with large nose, different rear track, etc. In 1971,the works cars sometimes used the Pederzani built BDA engine. This FB Tecno, listed as # 2/3-006 was driven by Harold Krech in the 1970 SCCA pro series that usually accompanied that year's F-5000 series. I think these little cars are especially good looking. Here pictured at Dallas International Motor Speedway, now a strip mall!
He drove a great race to finish, I think fifth. |

This is the car that was for sale a few years ago on race-cars.com
http://www.race-cars.com/carsold/oth...6/69t006ss.htm It was a very strange chassis number which does not correspond at all to the traditional Tecno sequence. |

Number as listed in the entry. Perhaps a typo or print production mistake?

For those interested, a book on Tecno race cars (Tecno - La Storia) has recently been published. It is written by Giuseppe Bianchini and Paolo D'Alessio and covers the whole Tecno production from karts to F1. Written in Italian and English, it includes a lot of period pictures. Not cheap but a high quality publication. A must for Tecno fans.

Echappement mentions that Hervé Bayard's 1970 French hillclimb car was an ex-Regazzoni F2 Tecno. Bayard doesn't appear in F2 in 1970. Is there a 1969 Tecno that goes missing in 1970 that would fit the bill?

Possibly T00314, which I don't have assigned anywhere in 1970, but since - as Drifty implies - Regga was not only using a different car at every race, and sometimes two if he got bored (see the pit stop model later copied by John Webb at Rufforth in 1971...), plus the fact that Tecno were immediately preserving each car in cotton wool and modified atmosphere for the benefit of contemporary historic car dealers, you have several others to choose from. Your posts are very timely for me. I am the owner of Tecno F2 TOO378. the car is currently for sale on race-cars.com. http://www.race-cars.com/carsales/ot...68718230ss.htm . I have confirmed the cars history back to Jean-Louis Staiano who used the car in 1970 and 71 to contest the French Nation Hill Climb Championship.
The previous owner and the 1991 FIA papers indicate car was driven to a 4th place finish at Enna by Regazzoni in 1969 prior to it being sold to Staiano. Can anyone in the forum confirm this information? Does anyone have a copy of the F1 Record book for F2 races in 1969? Does anyone have any photos of the Tecno cars in the 1969 Enna Race? Thanks, Joe |
