Possible new LMP2s (CvO, Norma, Radicals, etc...)
Thanks to Infocourse, we've here what was shown yesterday at Le Mans...
This car could become an LMP2 in 2006, and enter LMES and Le Mans in 2007 : http://www.infoscourse.org/2005_Divers/DSCF0087.JPG It's a CvO R02 (Christian Van Oost) : a VdV prototytpe for the time beeing, and driven by René de Fournoux and Emmaunel Orgeval in 2005. Spiffy. I can tell how the air gets in for the coolers, but can't figure out where it comes out again, certainly can't go all the way to the tail? With Panhard also going working towards LMP2, there certainly is a lot of growth in that category.
The barbed wire topped wall in the back ground creates an odd visual...... |

The car pictured is not the CvO R02, Fab. It's the first CvO R1, which is driven in the VdeV championship by the Demigneux brothers. The CvO R02 is currently being built and should be ready soon with many improvements.

The black car looks great (the grey car too, but the grey color looks boring and very plactic). |

Radical for Le Mans?
At Radical we have specialised in producig Sports racing cars for the discerning club racer. To date we have produced over 400 sports racers. Our new SR8 is a big step forward, 600kgs, two and a half times the downforce of our previous cars and our own 383bhp Powertec RPA macroblock 2.6 ltr V8 and Transaxle.
We think we can produce a 530-560 bhp 3.2 ltr version of this engine and put it in a spaceframe chassis which will comply to the latest ACO LMP2 regs and only cost £100,000. I think there would be a big market in the US and Europe for this product. I would welcome constructive comments. Details on Radical can be found at www.RadicalSportscars.com Last edited by Fab; 19 Jan 2005 at 04:41. Reason: Mick, I merged to very close threads about 'new small' prototypes, possibly becoming LMP2s in a close future... |

Thanks for the news Mick, and welcome to ten-tenths! Would be great to see a Radical LMP 2 car at LM and in the LMES/ALMS. Do u think though that the car could be competitve with the new Lola and C65? By the way, the power figures u provided are impressive, but are they with ACO restrictors? Good luck with the programme.

I'd been wondering when you guys were going to get round to building an LMP...
I'm sure this would do well, particularly given the recent growth of LMP2. |

We are confident of the power through a restrictor of 44.3mm dia. We must expect to be off the pace of a Lola, but at a quarter of the price you could have some good value fun.
Some interesting facts:- Fastest Spa LMP2 time 2 min 11.7 secs last year Our 230bhp SR3 laps in 2 mins 22secs The SR8 at 363bhp,600 Kgs and 2.5 times more downforce should do 10 secs quicker. So a 750kg LMP2 car should not hang about. |

What would it take to be "on" the pace, and how much more would that cost. Our man Tim Northcutt is very interested in companies such as yourself and the LMP2 category, and I believe he's chatted with your people about it.
Certainly a car that is close on pace, and at a fraction of the cost, should be a very interesting prospect. Keep us up to date on any progress in this direction. Last edited by Fogelhund; 19 Jan 2005 at 00:04. |

Blood sweat and tears would be required to take on Lola for a quarter of the cost. Some of our works driver would give them something to think about!!!

Any plans to take on Lola and Courage with either a works team, or by supporting a customer team? Would be great to have Radical at LM and rounds of the LMES.

i would definitely tell you that the market is out there, as can be seen by the explosion in growth of the LMP2 class since its beginning last year. i believe that an affordable, reliable, and solid LMP2 car that is competitive would definitely draw interest from a number of potential buyers. a car of the nature which you describe would be a great way for new teams that wanted to race LMPs, but haven't had the cash to do so.
however, what i would recommend about the program would be that you campaign at least one car as a factory effort in the car's debut season in order to show the potential of the car to possible customers (Courage did that this year and look at what it got them)... good luck with your plans and please keep us informed! |

Hi Mick - good to see you here!
The only thing I would think about is the Chassis - is a spaceframe tub enough to compare with the latest FIA/ACO crash-test requirements? Or would a Carbonfiber tub be needed - i.m.o. thats the crucial point. Have you checked out that already? |

Radical at ALMS
Our engineers have risen to every other challenge we have thrown at them so I cannot see any reason why a spaceframe chassis can`t pass the FIA test.
We would definatly run a works team in the US, it would be our biggest potential market. We have already sold about 100 cars to the US and our first SR8 lands on the West coast next week. |
