2018 Blancpain GT Asia

2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia:
April 14-15 – Sepang
May 12-13 – Buriram
June 30-July 1 – Suzuka
July 21-22 – Fuji
September 22-23 – Shanghai
October 13-14 – Zhejiang

Entry list so far:

GT3-

- Craft-Bamboo Racing - Porsche 911 GT3 R - Darryl O'Young / TBA
- Craft-Bamboo Racing - Porsche 911 GT3 R - TBA / TBA
- AMAC Motorsport - Lamborghini Huracan GT3 - Andrew Macpherson / Benjamin Porter

GT4-

- Craft-Bamboo Racing - Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport - TBA

Interesting to see how this series develops in year two, there was talk of splitting GT3/4 into separate races if the entry allows. Hopefully there's a more diverse GT4 entry after the gang of Caymans last year

Wonder if the AMAC Car is skipping Aus GT entirely for this series....

Amac have a Porsche also so theoretically could do both. It’s probably old enough for the Trophy series lol

Seeing as KCMG are a Audi GT brand through and through, I imagine this new model refers to the new R8 GT4

Looks like Absolute Racing are ditching their Bentleys... wonder if it’ll be more Audi’s on the boojs

So, GT Asia appears to be back.

Endurance Info reporting a 5 event calendar open to GT3, GT Cup, and GT4

March 28-April 1: Sepang (Malaysia)
1-3 June: Buriram (Thailand)
13-15 July: Bangsaen (Thailand) - open only to GTM and GTC
September 28-30: Ningbo (China)
October 26-28: Shanghai (China)

Curiously no word on the GT Asia website or anywhere other than Endurance Info so far.

Seems stupid to try and run the series again after the 2017 failure. Thought they’d settled with a China GT tie in.

I’m sure the region can’t sustain Gt Asia, China GT and Blancpain Asia all at once

Blancpain Asia will win. Whatever SRO does to attract cars, works. They swaned in and decimated the AsLMS GT3 grid. Over in Europe they get too many cars for Blancpain to cope with, yet the Le Mans Cup struggles to get GT3s. SRO have gotten the customer satisfaction down (if you consider the entries to be the customers in this model, rather than the fans).

Totally agree, surely GT Asia is better off sticking with China GT and making that a better package

China GT had some really nice Racing in 2017 and they definitely have a stronger base than GT Asia could manage to pull out of Blancpain Asia’s hands.

20 full time cars pretty much confirmed, most likely it'll be 25 before the end of January. The numbers look really good. SRO are good at entry lists.

That is GT3 and GT4 combined i guess? To be honest, 20-25 cars for two classes ain't really an improvement. The 2017 season had an average of 22-23 GT3 entries a round.

R1. Sepang - 24
R2. Chang - 21
R3. Suzuka - 23
R4. Fuji - 28
R5. Shnghai - 24
R6. Zheijan - 17
Average: 22.8333

Though, if we look at real full season numbers, it were 16 kinda full season entries, with around 37 different entries during the season. There were 5 full season entries in GT4, with two additional guest entries.

So the full season entries go from around 21 to 25. I hope we still get a lot of partial and guest entries.

I love this series so much, i even recreated the 2017 for AMS and organized a Sepang 2 Hour event:

(the onlu ones that are missing are the HubAuto Porsche.

Yeah, that's combined, but that's a growth of 5-10 full time cars which is good. There's still 3 months till the season start too. So that's an improvement at this point.

Very nice spotter guide!

Cool post, the site is looking great too

Glad to hear this is set to have a great second year, wonder how much SRO care about GT Asia trying to restart, or do they just think they are much better equipped for success so will win over regardless

Thanks!

This is probably completely unrealistic, but maybe it would be good for GT Asia and AsLMS to combine forces a little. Just when you think AsLMS is getting a foothold, it goes downhill again. It's finally gotten good streaming coverage, but the car count is so low. Asia may be up and coming, but SRO is really good at hoovering up the entries.

They'll be running alongside the TCR Asia Series at the first 3 rounds, which I think will be within a Thailand Super Series weekend. I'm assuming the well-supported ThaiSS GTM and GTC classes will bolster the numbers at least for those rounds.

HubAuto enters Blancpain Asia with two GT3 cars. Cars and drivers are unknown.
http://www.blancpain-gt-series-asia.com/news/119

As far as I know HubAuto has Porsche 911 GT3 R, Ferrari 488 GT3, BMW M6 GT3, BMW Z4 GT3, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. Also HubAuto had/has close connections with Team AAI / Buddyclub.

So 12 of the +/- 25 full season entries are now known I like this announcements being made every couple of days

Cool, last year they ran a Ferrari right? But as you say, they own a lot of cars so could be anything. Interesting one, and nice to see the expansion to two cars
