Iirc, that was done at Silverstone, in time for the 1997 British GP.
Ferrari have also done one at Imola, can't remember what other cars they used. And Ford did one, again at Silverstone (for a Jeremy Clarkson video) of Johnny Herbert in a Stewart GP, Colin McRae in a WRC Ford Focus and poor old Jezza in a Ford Cougar |

Really good, gives excellent insight into how fast an F1 car is,and also what a complete waste of money big powerful cars like the AMG 50 are against much smaller engined cars in the real world.

In 2004, Brazilian oil company Petrobras sponsored a competition between a Williams FW25, driven by Marc Gené, and a TC2000 Honda Civic of the official Honda team, driven by Juan Manuel Silva, on the autodrome of Buenos Aires.
The Williams and the Civic did two one-lap heats: on the first one Gené clearly took the lead and disappeared easily from Silva's view, finally the Williams crossed the finish line several seconds before the Civic; on the second heat, Gené gave Silva a 20 secs. of advantage and that lap became a chase of the Civic made by the Spaniard, but at the end Gené overtook Silva on the same finish line. That happened on Sunday, October 30th, 2004, at Buenos Aires circuit. |

And I apologize for that.. mr Ascii man, can you please shorten that signature, or at least insert a 'space' somewhere in the middle? Your posts kinda mess up the entire thread. Thank you in advance. |

There's also race between BAR Honda, MotoGP bike and powerboat.

Yeah because the Moto GP bike would have obliterated the F1 car.

Notes to take in consideration....
Malaysia Rossi's pole time 2:01.833 M.Schumacher's pole time 1:33.074 Spain - (Catalunya) Gibernau's pole time 1:42.596 M.Schumacher's pole time 1:15.022 I don't see how the GP bike obliterates the F1 car, do you? |

A car will always own a bike in corners with more tyre grip & downforce

I was on about a straight line drag when the BAR was racing the bike and the boat but thanks for that anyway.
(Maybe I should have made that clear though) Of course an F1 car is faster on the corners! I'm not stupid! Last edited by maximus; 3 Apr 2005 at 09:45. |

But from the start it seemed, that boat was fastest, BAR slowest (the first 10 meters or so). The water and screw creates surprising amount of grip,
