Megga UK Saloon Car series rumour!
My spies who are very much in the know have informed me that a stunning new V8 saloon car class is set to join an established and popular saloon series here in the UK for next year possibly using the Ford Mustang engine as its powerplant. The cars will have nothing what so ever to do with the "sleeping" Andy Rouse venture-this series is for definate...has anybody else heard anything on this exciting rumour???

Is there room for another series at the moment? There are plenty of existing series struggling for numbers as it is, adding another series will spread the available resources further surely?
Has there been any more news on SCV8? If that gets up and running then is the new proposed series redundant or is it aimed more at a club level whilst SCV8 goes for the natoinal level? |

Sounds like the late "Euocar V8'" concept to me. Never very succesful.
Why can't people just build cars to fit existing regulations instead of trying to invent new concepts? If you want to race a V8 Saloon, do it the British GT series a la Monaro. |

I love the way this series is "definate", like SCV8 was "definate" right up to the moment it was cancelled for this year.
I'm sorry Baz, but since we've heard nothing about this one, and the details are still sketchy and shrouded in secrecy, expect cynicism. |

Sam, you surprise me! seems your fellows "accross the room" seem to have already heard mutterings on the subject!! CY, I can understand your thoughts on the subject and I'd be thinking similar had I not heard it from my "mole" who I have the deepest respect for! Sam, have a word to that man Matt J'...he normally has his ears to the ground on National Motorsport and he might know something?

Andy97 - Without wishing to state the obvious - MONEY! It is no coincendence that most new series, particularly single make, are started or supported by someone who just happens to be in a position to make some money out of it. |

Denis, to be fair, if you wasn't going to be able to make money out of a new project then why on earth would anyone ever start anything at all? If someone like the BARC wasn't ever going to make money out of organising running your meetings then why would they have bothered in the first place?

Perhaps if they want to make money out of motorsport they could make things for existing series, be competitive and have people flocking to their door rather than setting up a 'monopoly' where they can do what they want, usually supplying a substandard package that just couldn't compete in a multi make environment.

>>>If someone like the BARC wasn't ever going to make money out of organising running your meetings
===the C in BARC stands for 'club' - the concept of which is (or used to be) a not-for-profit organisation founded "by members, for members" to organise events for people with the same fun hobby. Or is this a novel idea in the money-grubbing 21st century? Discuss... |

Clubs still need to make enough money to cover all their expenses and, hopefully, any profit is used for the benefit of it's members.
What I object to is the existing loyal membership being stitched up at the expense of the latest new high profile big money single make series which, at least as often as not, end up failing miserably leaving the normal low budget club racer with a portion of the resulting 'debt'. |

Understand the problem of Clubs making or not making money but I seem to have lead people off the track here so sorry-lets get back to this NEW saloon series and see what is uncovered in the next few weeks on the subject and leave the clubs thing to another thread...thanks chaps!

I know,
Let's call it Thundersaloons For steel shelled (based) saloon cars with unrestricted engines in the upper class, and up to 2500cc in the lower class. Two drivers, 75 mile races as a minimum. That should pull the crowds in. And what's more, there's loads of machinery already out there that can run in it!! And Bernie Ecclestone will put up a large prize fund out of the kindness of his heart, and his willingness to put something back into National motorsport. Ho ho ho Rob. |

One of the problems with a new series is the pool of drivers it hopes to attract. Obviously, there will some drivers who change championships or opt to compete in more than one. However, its success will be limited as its an expensive venture, and in all probability, there will be few drivers sitting around at home with enough money to enter the series - in all likelyhood, the top drivers will have a drive in another series or are without the money to compete. Consequently, I cannot see how it hopes to succeed.

Some good points raised so far but this new series will complement an already healthy series. It could be looked at as a feeder catagory where drivers of the existing championship may like to move up to if it takes their fancy or indeed join straight away if that is what they want. I can understand that there may not be room for another series on such a crowded calendar but this will have room as it will complement an already scheduled race catagory. Lets face it-if no new championships/clases were born the state of National racing would begin to go a little stale after a few years with no new imput. Keep your ears to the ground as I'm sure more info will creep through!
