Mark F1 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Will the trend continue .....

The trend I'm talking about is that for the last 8 years the driver who has won the Brazilian Grand Prix has gone onto win World Championship the same year.

Here is the sequence (For those who haven't seen it)

1994 - M Schumacher (Benetton)
1995 - M Schumacher (Benetton)
1996 - D Hill (Williams)
1997 - J Villeneuve (Williams)
1998 - M Hakkinen (McLaren)
1999 - M Hakkinen (McLaren)
2000 - M Schumacher (Ferrari)
2001 - M Schumacher (Ferrari)
2002 - ?????

But, will the trend continue this year?

I think Ralf would make a great champion, no doubt. He is bright, articulate in several languages, good looking and has a beautiful family. He races clean, and everyone knows I admire that.

If Ralf wins, the sport wins, I think.

This used to be the case with the Dutch GP... except for when Bonnier won it in the BRM.

There's always an exception to the rule...

Senna did not win in Brazil until 1991 and he only won twice. To correct you:

1988 A. Prost (McLaren Honda)
1989 N. Mansell (Ferrari)
1990 A. Prost (Ferrari)
1991 A. Senna (McLaren Honda)
1992 N. Mansell (Williams Renault)
1993 A. Senna (McLaren Ford)

Thanks for pointing that out Raoul Duke, about Coulthard winning last year, I totally forgot that.

Lets just say that the winner of the Brazilian Grand Prix USUALLY wins the World Championship as well !!!!!

The winner of the first race usually wins the WDC as well...and the last race too.

Come to think of it, there aren't that many different winners.

Is Keke's title year really 20 years ago?

Different winners at virtually every race...

Here is another client for my humble pie. Halfie is very capable of "Saving my engine" type of comments to make him a worthy champ. I am not even going to mention his "Colombians" statement.

Probably trying to get him back for JPM's 'weak Europeans' comment.

To be fair, the driver who wins the championship is probably the driver most likely to win any of the races!

Another strange coincidence, is that the driver with the most points at the end of the season usually wins the title. I am not sure if anyone else has noticed that one.

Sorry my trend together with the trend at the top is meant to show a pattern of teams winning drivers titles in pairs, guess I should've read the thread properly first!!

IMHO, it's simply a statistical artefact, like the supposed streakiness of baseball pitching, which has been shown to be a phenomenon of chance.

i.e. it's irrelevant to this race and to the championship as a whole.
