Champ Car Announcement....Gone Missing?

On Friday night the Champ Car website had a story that there would be a webcast of an announcement regarding the Grand Prix of China, and Forsythe Racing on Saturday morning. I tuned in and saw an intro showing highlites from last year's Atlantic series, and then two people who appeared to be preparing for an interview. One was Chinese and in a racing suit. The two just sat and waited and the audio never came up.

Now on the Champ Car site all of the announcements have been pulled. Has anyone heard anything about what the announcement will be? Forsythe has already announced a two car team for Atlantics, could he be going to three with a Chinese driver?

One rumor is that they were going to announce 1) a consortium of Chinese TV stations carrying all Champ Car and Atlantics races, 2) moving the Champ Car race in China from May to October, and 3) a Chinese driver to run the Atlantic series for Forsythe starting with Las Vegas, and then drive in the Champ Car race as Zhuhai in October.

Whatever it was sure didn't come off the way they expected it to. Whether it was just technical problems with the webcast, lack of coordination of the parties coming together for the announcement(s), or some substantive last minute hangup in whatever deal they were going to announce we have no idea.

We will just have to wait a while to find out. But, clearly the webcast didn't happen in any meaningful way, so there is no reason to keep the announcement of it up on the Champ Car website.

I'd guess there must've been some hangup in whatever deal was going down -- otherwise, they would've ignored the telecast snafu and put the announcement of whatever they were doing on the website.
