The STIG should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Dakar 06 - Where has team De Rooy gone?

Couldn't help noticing that one of the most committed dakar teams is invisible on the timing sheets this year - where are the boys in blue from the Jan De Rooy truck team? I'm sure they had an entry this year...

All DAF trucks had problems with homologation. A shame, yes.

The 2006 spec was not homologated in time. The two DAF's teams say they agreed with the FIA that there was no problem. On 7 december the FFSA did an official pre-scruteneering on all the race-trucks. There was no problem of the sort. 23 december while in Portugal they heard that the homologation was not going to happen. So they rebuild the trucks to 2005 spec. They replaced 26 different things. There was only one thing, not performance depending, that they couldn't change in time, so they filed a new homologation for that some time ago. The FIA refuses to grant that homologation before 2 January because they are on holiday. They can't start pending the descision either because KAMAZ and RENAULT filed an official complaint.

Oh dear. smacks of the Minardi situation at the beginning last year's F1 season. also seems that there's a conflict between the FFSA and the FIA

FFSA President, Jacques Regis has been in some struggle for power with Max, so that explains some things.....

Only issue was the leaf spring. The DAF team have 9cm while the homologation sais 8cm.
Other issue about the homologation is the number of proto's produced. You need 15 proto's before the truck can be homologated, and team De Rooy were a few short.
Funny how 1cm of leaf spring can waste a 2 mil. euro budget.

According De Rooy and Team Bekx (the other DAF team) there was an agreement the rest of the trucks could be build in 2006.
