I went to Indianapolis for the USGP. It was my first time there. Qualifying was great but i think i would rather watch the race on TV. Did any of you go? What did you think of it?

Welcome Stubert.
Set the VCR. Go to the race. Come home and watch the tape. You will see two very different races (but dont expect the results to change) You CAN have your cake and eat it too! |

yes I was
I was there and I can't wait to go back. I did the same thing, set the vcr so I could catch all the good stuff I missed live.
I was on turn 11 as soon as they came on to the oval. It was cool but I wish they would create some infield seating. |

I was at Silverstone last year, slogging through the drenched English countryside, rubbing blisters on my feet, and getting to see very little of what actually went on. But, nothing compares to being there. Nothing on TV can prepared me for the inhuman shriek of the cars as they screamed past Copse.
Sure it is much better to watch the race on TV, but that is why video tapes were invented. |

Also, although I can't comment about Indy, at Silverstone there are a few giant screens around the track. So you can have your cake and eat it at the same time, then come back and see the highlights programme on ITV in case you missed something.

If you go to Silverstone, take a hand-held telly with you. For all the major meetings they have their own TV channel. So you can really have your cake & eat it.

I attended the USGP and it was great. It was very easy to get around the track and there are alot of good viewing areas. The size of the place is just breathtaking. Access to and from the speedway was excellent but I'm just comparing that to Montreal where you feel like cattle (the track is on an island!). I would definitely attend the USGP again!

I won't be going this year (Canadian GP, Molson Indy, Univeristy eat up my budget), but I might consider going in 2002.
I'll still go to Montreal though. The atmosphere in the city for those 3 days is absolutely amazing and not to be missed. But, as TRD said, the circuit is very tight and crowded. Also, Quebecers are generally very pushy (sorry if it's not PC, but it's true). I have heard that the Indy circuit has some great opportunities for photographers on the infield circuit, which is the big attraction for me. Also, I just want to experience another GP, and the logistics of going to a European one, are too much at the moment for me. |

Jay, with the costs involved, would it not be more attractive for you to go for a week's ski-ing at Merribel on a low budget ski chalet arrangement? You can get some great packages out of London from quite a few ski holiday package deal travel agents. Of course, two weeks would be even better.
