Besides Formula One what about Indy?
One of the greatest is Arie Luyendijk (Luyendyk to the Americans)
See a recent issue of Classic Car Africa for the story on the
"Flying Dutchmen" (Arie and his father Jaap.

Who is Jan de Vroom?I saw his name mentioned in connection with helping the careers of the Rodriquez brothers.I hope he was a driver, with a name like that...

Felix Muelas should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
1-I am unsure that Jan de Vroom was Dutch. I know it seems a weird statement, but I have seen his nationality quoted as Belgian.

2-He was one of the co-founders (with Chinetti and George Arents) of the NART (North American Racing Team) who ran private-owned Ferraris. Hence the conecction with the Rodriguez brothers.

3-He ocasionally ran his own cars. He was at Le Mans in 1957, and also raced in Venezuela, for instance.

We need a Ferrari expert to follow this, these are just minor clues.

Jan de Vroom was one of the co-sponsors of Chinetti's 1957 North American Racing Team, which was based in New York.

Jan loaned his Ferrari 290 MM to Temple Buell for Stirling Moss to drive, who then won the 1957 Nassau race.

At the 1957 1000 km of Venezuela race, Jan de Vroom won the 2-liter class sharing the seat of his Ferrari with Julio Batista. He retired with the same car at Le Mans where he shared the ride with George Arents, one of the co-sponsors of the North American Racing Team.

According to <http://user.tninet.se/~aiq291w/1957.htm>, Jan was Belgian and here in 25th position.
