CAD and Alaysis programs?

Does anyone know what programs(accesable to public) the top teams use for finite analysis of suspension and chassis designs??

My current programs is somewhat limited. And im wondering what some of the top teams use.
Thanks.

I don't know what "real" race team uses, our Formula SAE uses Pro/Engineer...

ANSYS is excellent for FEA.

For 3D solid modeling, Catia is widely used in F1. Unigraphics, Ideas, Pro/E, etc., are also very popular, but very expensive. Catia's entry level little brother is SolidWorks, and UG's is Solid Edge.

For suspension design, the Mitchell programs are widely used (ie Racing By The Numbers).

The use of Pro-Engineer, CATIA, SolidWorks, and SolidEdge are all popular in the aviation industry and this bleeds over into motorsports industry as well. Pro-Engineer has fallen out of favor lately with the software developer closing and the other three have taken a strong foothold in FE analysis. Many of these programs require a dedicated computer and are not for PCs.

Autodesk's AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop/Inventor seem to rule the PC based market but do not offer FEA. I am currently using Mechanical Desktop 3.0, and am hoping to get Inventor soon.

Wat do you mean Pro/engineer is not being developed anymore? They are just releasing a new version, wildfire though i thnk its a bit more integrated now with there other stuff. All you need is a fast PC with lots of RAM to run them

moody copies of solidedge and soldworks are available freely over kazaa and such like. either will set you back about £5000 UK if you are decentenough to buy them. Try heading to some trade shows, such as eastec or imts you can get a demonstration of most of them there.

The programs the top eams use are horrendously expensive, on manufacturer said they could kit you out with a whole design shop of computers, and that 15 copies of the program was £25'000!!

Whenever i've tried looking for programs, all the design stuff is all architecture and therefore totally useless

Our customers are all switching away from Pro-E claiming that their has been no support and the company had folded. Caterpillar has switched to Inventor. Komatsu's drawings are coming in drawn with AutoCAD. They both used to use Pro-E extensively.

Pirenzo, if you are a student, Autodesk offers student packages on their software at reduced prices. Check out their website. If not, then you might seek a warez site that has a cracked version. I don't recommend this, but it is an alternative.

We use Pro/E, and PTC and it's support network have NOT folded. Incidentally a student version is available for 150 dollars from JourneyEd.
