Hot off the press from our local newspaper - The Buckingham Advertiser - James Beckett reports that the 8 Clubs race meeting, proposed to take place on Saturday 15th March at Silverstone, has been cancelled - it says due to cost issues. |

Its a shame, but I'm not surprised. Silverstone is pricing itself out of the clubbie market.

This was one meeting of the season that I really looked forward too. Maybe ''8 Clubs'' could try another venue, perhaps Mallory? Let's see what happens next year.

As I ever I stand corrected!
Yes the Timekeepers do get paid & the Clerks sometimes get their petrol paid. As Bob (BRDC Marshal of the Year 2007) & Hilary quite rightly say they are unpaid, at other circuits the Breakdowns are bought in from 'outside' such as Barry Mills @ Mallory. |

Also Scruitineers, Rescue Units, Programme Sellers, St Johns Ambulance, Laurels, Commentators, Hospitality Units to name but a few more that have to be paid for.

Breakdown Charges
I'm afraid to tell you that there is a fee involved for circuit owned breakdowns.
All circuit owned/leased vehicles which include breakdowns, JCB's, fire tenders/snatch vehicles, FD cars and chase fire tender are or at least always have been charged at a nominal flat rate per vehicle and this cost either charged on top of the circuit hire price or built in to it depending on the individual circuit terms and conditions of hire for that event. Ambulances and outside Rescue units charge their own fee for attendance. However all of the above vehicles are manned by either volunteer marshals or professional people who all give up their leisure time to cover these events and to support the sport. Elementary |
