New footbridge at Cadwell

MSV have put a footbridge across the end of the Start/finish straight. Could make things a bit interesting.

My only worry would be the central support if there was a biggy.

I'm sure that has been taken into account - after all, all circuit changes have to be approved by the MSA

I could not agree more. In an unfortunate "launch" situation it could be lethal for both sides of the track.

Never say never but I don't think a "launch" would take place there I was thinking more along the lines of armco allows a certain amount of give whereas bridge support doesn't

The armco is either side of the bridge support. Expand the picture on the MSV website and you can clearly see a gap between bridge support and the armco.

Yes, i take your point ......... but a launch situation (not off the armco but another car) is always possible and like you, i would never say never, and especially as this is approaching a "bunching" downhill corner.

I,ve always mentally "ducked" going under that low footbridge on the Brands GP circuit and wondered " what if ".

Footbridge, or this road bridge?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvQFDOa19q0

There's a risk everywhere on a circuit that a car could be launched and end the wrong side of the armco. And there's a risk that if that happens where there's a bridge, the outcome will be worse. (Although, conversely, it's more likely to keep the car back within the confines of the circuit, and therefore safer for spectators).

The MSA safety inspections are all about risk management. The bridge will have been installed in a location and with specifications considering the liklihood of an incident such as described. And whilst it's not possible to eliminate the risks, they will have been considered. And remember, motorsport is dangerous - it says so on the back of your ticket

Quite right.
Sorry, i,ve only ever been under it, not over it. It is low though.

I do agree with all you say, and of course motor sport can be dangerous.

My concern though was the fact that the bridge with a central support is spanning the close together two sides of the track. Sorry, but just seems wrong to me, but then, what do i know.

It,ll all be fine.
