Flying Scotsman 2016
Pre War Sports Cars seem to be making a come back.
The entries opened for 2016 Flying Scotsman last week and eighty have already been received .This leaves thirty remaining places.Thats eighty per cent gone and all the entrants have paid the full dosh! Amazing for an event that is taking place in April next year. This following the success at Silverstone last weekend when the grid was 54 cars shows that these old bags of bolts have a large following. Let's hope the specials do not mess up the growth but am sure the organisers will jump on this earlier. A car that looks like an old car but made with new gizmos last week won't work. Cars that are replicas and built the same mechanicals as originals will! |

Starts tomorrow running through until Sunday. The published spectator points are on the below link:
http://www.endurorally.com/pages/fly...ectator-points Hopefully I will get to see them somewhere on the North York Moors if I've guessed the route correctly from the points provided. If I haven't then at least I get another walk on the Moors! Might venture further north on Saturday as well. Looks to be a fine turn out of cars 100+. |

I don't have any route details I'm afraid Peter but they are scheduled to stop at Eden Camp for a mid-morning coffee break, if that helps. Don't have a time though.

Sorry cancel that - checked the Eden Camp website and they have a note that the rally's visit there has been cancelled. Passing through Slingsby after Castle Howard apparently according to Slingsby village website.

So far they have had rain, sleet and snow and in one part no visibility.
Waiting for results but with weather could be some disappointed people and big surprises. A few took the direct route this afternoon so of the hundred starters suggest half are now there to tour rather than compete. |

So, not wishing you were competing, then, John!

Managed to catch them on the North York Moors as planned. Started off cloudy and dry but ended up very wet and dull but an impressive turnout of cars nonetheless.
At one point I was kneeling down in the heather taking pictures in heavy rain (fully kitted up of course - I'm used to walking there!) but I did get a few quizzical looks from car occupants travelling in the opposite direction! So a couple of batches of photos: |

A chap came into PFI kart track when we were there this morning asking what time the Flying Scotsman was due. I really thought he meant the train. ..

I did enter but being infirm and generally knackered having got past 70 had pressure to withdraw.
Gareth immediately pinched my normal car leaving the one he usually drives in Haverhill. He has a new navigator Martyn and they are leading mostly due to a quick time over one lap at Croft. 23 secs quicker than other leaders ! It's a new team so expect some hiccups on regularities .They will have tough time today to stay in top five. John Able still favourite. |

Lovely photos, Gary.
John, this 'pressure'; is it to retire from all such events or just this one? Please keep us posted on how Gareth and Co are progressing. |

The idea is to do the Alpine Rally in September as a final event should things sort themselves out throughout the summer.
Plan is to rally an Alta with Gareth and I will use the Talbot. That will be it! Doing an old persons event next week with MSA Spring Run.No competition! My cars are due to race at Le Mans Classic ,HSCC Silverstone ,Silverstone Festival and Zandvoot but I don't have to do anything other than pay Except for entering odd Pre War car that will be it. |

G B and Martyn still in lead by 32 secs,
John Able second. Gareth quickest in tests but losing time on road regs. Going to be a long day tomorrow, Knockhill in morning. |

Just go to post a reply but before posting it go down the page to Additional Options and click Manage Attachments which allows you to add photos one at a time up to six per post. Then submit the post.

If you can't find it below the text box, you may need to click on the safety clip situated mid centre at top of menu. That brings 'manage attachments' into view for me. You can then select a pic from wherever and upload it. Think one at at time, though....
