Girls, could we REALLY take over the motor racing world?
The Fat Clerk posted this on another thread:
Suddenly I've developed a cold sweat & gone very nervous. the thought of you 2 formidable ladies together (referring to me and Shelagh)..............add in Viv Ayres (a Clerk with the 750MC) and you 3 coulde take over the Motor Racing World..............HELP... I replied to the effect that he'd missed out Hazel Carter and Jenny Birrell. That was before I realised I'd omitted to mention my counterpart from the BRSCC - MelanieJSmith, Carrol Harris, Diane Hardy from Donington ES Team and, no doubt, several other suitably qualified ladies, all armed with broomsticks and handbags. Go on chaps (and chapesses!) give us the names of the gentler sex who really could take over the Motor Racing World! |

Viv Ayres definately frightens me, having been on the wrong end of a talking to by her.
She could take over the world on her own. |

Pam Dearn can be added to the list of course.
Must tell a funny story about Viv Ayres. At a 750MC meeting a couple of years ago @ Brands Hatch, Vicki Butler-Henderson was racing in our Caterham 7's & had been reported for overtaking under a waved yellow, John Smith (another C of C) and I were in the process of spinning a coin to see who would have the pleasure, when Viv stepped in between us & said "this ones mine boys" She duly dealt with V.B-H, who came out f the Clerks office looking like she'd be told her fortune in no uncertain terms, not quite what John and I had in mind! |

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!
Think here is a good point to mention Maggie O'Mally who does all the great rescue work, plus all the other girls on the units |

I certainly wouldn't argue with Janet from BARC HQ Rescue unit.
Mini-Mental is a force to be reckoned with as well. As no doubt are SkyRedButton, Chezza and KayBee. Any more? |

There are also Startline lady marshals such as Dorothy Uwoto, Christine Reddington, Carol Harris and the two Louises from BARC, and Bev Franklin and Lynn Moore from my own Brands Hatch team. Plus Wendy and Caroline from MGCC, and Fay Crook who does so much for the marshals club.
The grandest lady marshal of all must be Jo Attrill, who I first worked with at Lydden RallyX in the 1970's. With a little help with numbers on the bank, the ladies could totally run a meeting themselves! Bryan |

Did you want to speak to the man in charge or the woman that runs things............
I'd vote for the ladies of the MMA and the MRMCI collective known as Harnett's Harem! Oh and don't forget Julie who joined us from Brands - now there is a lady who's had an extremely positive influence on how Irish motorsport is run! And of course our own Fel McIlroy, Chief Marshal for Kirkistown and Jan from the NI Rescue Unit! |

I'm fairly certain anyone who knows what's good for them at Oulton does exactly what Jan Gower tells them. She's a scary woman. Though maybe my impressions are coloured slightly - last time I saw Jan, me and her ex (!) were trespassing on her pit lane...

With the number of names mentioned here increasing rapidly, I get the distinct impression that ANY female marshal is a force to be reckoned with.
Now what does that say about us male marshal’s... |
