HHF dropped by Jordan in 2001 because of...

Honda....

Autosport is reporting on that EJ had to get rid of HHF to keep Honda engines

I'm not entirely clear why that meant he had to go mid season.

Yeah, that confuses me, he states he had to get rid of Frentzen to secure Honda engines for 2002.
So why not just release him at the end of 2001?

This whole story confuses me. Both Jordan-drivers were end of contract at the end of 2001, so EJ could have not-extended their contracts. and secondly, why not fire Trulli? Maybe some contractual issue may have prevented EJ from firing Trulli.

I think EJ is bending the truth.

There was clearly some fall out with HHF.

These things happen.

Alesi is fairly popular in Japan. But i think EJ is still convering up on the whole Frentzen incident.

Bernie's F1 Mag did a feature on the HHF/EJ split - I think the reason it was mid season was that both parties had lost total confidence in the other.

There was the alleged incident where mechanics found Frentzen altering his car with a hacksaw, apparently because he felt they would not make the changes to it he wanted.

If it had been an engine contract issue that could have been settled at the end of the season.

Crikey, he'd have needed more than a hacksaw to fix that car...

The 2001 Jordan was still reasonably fast

Indeed it was, it had the qualifying special version as well and usually qualified in the Top 10 sometimes on the second and even first rows!

It look liked it was about to tear it's rivals apart, and looked genuinely sleek and fast (certainly compared to the tank-like BAR of the same time!), that Jordan was my favourite!

Grrr, BAR with their fancy ideas of having "sponsorship" (who needs that!) to go with their up-the-ante Honda engines hehe as Jordan trundles around down the back

OK. Someone owes me a keyboard for that one!

I should know better than to drink coke while I am reading in this board.

Never!!!! Not from the most trusted man in F1. He probably had to phone Frentzen quickly before he ran out of Vodafone pay as you go vouchers.
