So it will be a championship with points and one overall winner rather than a series of stand alone events?

About time! Looking forward to seeing some different cars in rallycross. What cars does anyone think would be competitive in this new formula?

It's not just about BHP though. You have got to also look at gearing, handling, cost and availability of spares.
I have just had a look at the specs of three cars, one with 170BHP, one with 150BHP and one with 130BHP. Straight away I have discounted the one with 170 because of cost. |

this is great is we could have it in both series.
if its not in both series, it just fragments what we already have. |

and we need to have the same tyres for both series, different tyres, = bigger cost.
How about old Clio Williams 306 GTI-6 Focus St170 Firdsta ST2.0 Puma 1.7 |

Does it have to be as it left the factory, or can you put a MI16 engine in a 205?, 16v motor in a Nova?Etc
This would make more sense as the people with stockhatch 205's now, have got little work to do to move up and wont have to build a new car, therefore keeping the costs down. And are they actually gonna be checked for legability or is it gonna be like Stockhatch is now, i.e. cheat until you are caught(LSD's!!, softer compouind tyres!,wrong ECUs inside the proper cases!) It happens! How many stockhatches have been checked this year? |

If you wanted you could drop the 1.9 8 valve into a 205 if they want to get into the class. I don't now a huge amount about novas but did the late model ones of the box shape not come with the 2.0 from the factory ? |

From what has been said it appears it will be small hatchback cars, any chance that we might see a few bigger sized cars?

I think if you look at Chris's first post you will see he said that multi valve is allowed, just not variable valve timing model cars.
I have to say I am one of the people who would have said it was better to leave out these VVT cars but someone I was talking to made a fair point on the matter. If you start out banning VVT does this not just rule out a large majority of models that can be used and are you just back to the same old situation ala S/H at present with one model dominating and were the new models that could be used are all 16v and 8 valve cars are becoming scarse. You don't want to alienate existing competitors but new machinery is inevitable if you want classes to be substained. This is why I think it is better that each model is given a individual weight and that success ballast is seriously looked at as the only way for a class to change and progress no matter what new technology is introduced. While I do agree that this proper weight system would be the ideal way to go I think that in the current climate were there seems to be no clear direction (ie there needs to be one person in clear charge of what weight each car should be) and that there seems to be no obvious cordination between the organisers of the various championships. It may be safer just to keep it simple as regards regs and ban VVT. |

Why can this class not be allowed a few mods LSD's etc so that it is a genuine step up from Stock Hatch to Super 2000 / Supernational / Modified, as it is all it will do is fragment the Stock Hatch class . Last edited by Chessmsport; 31 Oct 2006 at 18:56. |
