The V8 coverage

what do you think channel 7 coverage of the 2007 series will be like,i think the coverage will be poor and they will be delayed because of their AFL coverage.

Even though the announcement when made (and presumebly the contract with VESA to) stated there will be more live coverage than now?

On what basis do you believe the coverage will be poor?

That's why they are spending multi millions of dollars for the rights to the V8's, just to put on poor and delayed coverage, sounds like a good business plan, NOT.

Hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised, but how about we wait till this time in 2007 and then debate the pro's and con's.

I can only see positives coming out of the actual broadcast times and races. There may be some issues of the commentary but that is another thread (soon to be merged?).

Yep, Can't see 7 laying out money to do something poorly. It's a lot of money to spend for a "time filler" as you are implying it will be.

AFL #1 by big bucks.
V8s #2.

Dreamers need a reality check.

Just so long as it is that - not AFL #1, then Dancing With The Stars #2, then Home & Away #3, etc etc etc then V8's #87, on just after the infomercial finishes. (not that I believe that will be the case)

Compare the ratings, those programs would outrate it quite easily. Thankfully a v8 race shouldnt clash with those programs.

Dunno, those 1 AM 'Saturday' telecasts on 10 right now would be pretty close to the infomericals...

Nah, that would get replaced by a late night game show hosted by a Big Brother loser.

Ch 7 say they will be able to fit their 2 games of AFL coverage on Sunday.

A game goes for around 2.5 hours, so with no pre-game for both games, that is 5 hours of coverage. This would more than likely take up from around 1230-530.

On race weekends that clash with the AFL, Race 2 and 3 would probably be telecast seperately.

So if twilight footy comes in, we could have
1130-1230: Race 2
1230-1500: AFL game 1
1500-1600: Race 3 (1.5 hrs would be better for coverage though)
1600-1830: AFL game 2

This then would be a problem for 7 News as it is a show they really want to win.

Also a dilemma that could face South Australian fans.
If Adelaide and Port Adelaide both play on the same day as the V8s, it will be interesting to see when they are shown. Both SA matches are currently required to be shown on Free-To-Air, and there is an expectation that interstate matches are shown live. So this could prove a thorn in the side for SA V8 fans.

It will be interesting to see when the V8 rounds are next year.
Early March: Clipsal 500 (Bloody hot)
Late March: Perth
April: New Zealand
The New Zealand round will fit well in the timeslot for the AFL season as they are well ahead of Eastern time and thus the races will be finished to slot in free gaps.
May:
June: The AFL has a split round, so the weekend where only 2 games are played will be a good time for a V8 round
July:
August:
September: Sandown any time after the first weekend (AFL Finals Week 1)
October: Bathurst and Surfers Paradise
November:
December: Hopefully the season doesn't run this late again

Haven't the AFL approved twilight games for Sunday nights, which 7 have been pushing?

If that is the case, you may have timeslot like this:

- Race 2 shown Sunday morning (in between Sportsworld and the AFL)
- AFL game
- Race 3 (say for example 3-6)
- 7 news
- AFL game at 6:30pm

Maybe the solution for V8Supercars Australia (and 7) is to reduce each meeting to only 2 races, one on the Saturday, and then one on the Sunday arvo. Who apart from the diehards are going to tune into two seperate telecasts of V8s on a Sunday?

No dreamer here. I did not imply V8's would get fair treatment over the afl. I'm suggesting the v8s will get good coverage (not over afl though).

Maybe Ch 7 will broadcast the races live on their second digital channel. All stations have them. ABC and SBS seem to be the only ones using them at the moment. It would be perfect for any clash programming.

As current media laws stand only ABC and SBS are allowed to multicast different programming on their digital channels. In the ideal world everyone would have access to digital tv and all stations could broadcast 2 or 3 lots of programming.

Of course one of the reasons digital tv is being held back in this country is the multicasting ruling and the government only have themselves to blame for the lack of take up. Not to mention the SD/HD fiasco but don't get me started.

But ultimately whatever happens with next year's coverage will be the fault of TC & Mark Skaife as with most things around here.
