MattB13 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Newbie here, and PLI question....

Hi folks, this is my first time, so please be gentle with me !

Next weekend I'm off to Rockingham to do some photography for Mazda on Track - a track driving school type of thing. I have approached Rockingham with a view to obtaining media accreditation, which is all going fine apart from one small detail.... They require that I have Public Liability Insurance of £10 million

Is this a normal amount for a track to ask for ? I ask as all the policies Ive looked up only seem to go up to £5 million ?

Am I missing something somewhere...? If so, would somebody please be kind enough to point me in the right direction ?

Many Thanks !!!

Matt

Hmm. Never seen a ferret smilie before ! I have 5 of them, so it felt right to include this for no real reason, other than that.

Yes it's normal to need it for working at a track. Never heard of 10 million being asked for. However I would suggest you phone up some of the insurance companies you have tried to see what they can do.

I was going to give Aaduki a call tomorrow - I understand they're pretty good ?

I did think £10m was a bit steep ! Ive also just sent their press officer type person an email to double check.....

Thanks for the rapid response, by the way !!

Interesting that they are asking for this now.
I covered a BARC Event in June and they didn't even ask me for any PLI !!!
Will be interested to hear how you get on.

Race days are generally covered, but track days etc. aren't.

Mike, probably because the day you did was a raceday and from the sounds of it Matt is shooting a testing day. Very different.

Edit - The Mike was referring to Mr Savage

Anglesey wanted evidence of PLI during a recent BRSCC meeting. I put it down to the fact that I was shooting for one of the teams and not for media although what difference it should make I do not know.

Yes, as mentioned, I am indeed shooting at a trackday, not an "official" event, as it were. I am also attending at the request of a club founder to do some publicity shots for him. Hence the reason I'd like to get trackside.

I called Aaduki today, and they said they can do cover up to £10m, but as its trackside stuff, and not just general PLI, they need to refer it to one of their specialist type people - should be getting a call back from them tomorrow afternoon. I'll keep you all posted !

Hmmm. Even Oulton only wanted 5mil...
And I wonder why I've never been to Rockingham...?

Knockhill ask for £3million PLI for race meetings and MSV ask for £5M for test days. At most other tracks working media are covered by a MSA policy but that obviously only covers working media on actual MSA event days.

PLI is increasingly been requested in other sports too.

I've got £5m PLI. No-ones yet asked to see the certificate, but I've got it just in case.

Spoke to Aaduki, and they had a look into it for me, came back and said that no one was interested in doing cover up to £10m.... So, I called Rockingham, spoke very nicely to the person in charge of these things, and they said they would accept me with £5m !

Result !

So now Im all covered, and raring to go !

I can also highly recommend Aaduki - the chap I was dealing with phoned me back to sort my cover out at 1830. Not bad when you consider that they close at 1700......

I can reccomend them too. I don't know them, but anyone who doesn't try to exploit more money out of you has got to be good.

Especially when you consider that it was his suggestion to contact the circuit and see if they would accept £5m !

What a star !
