I would sign a save Spa petition. But I wont waste time for a petition to Bernie. Address it to Belgian govt and I would gladly sign it.
Sheese, I've read that they are looking to put health warnings on cars!!! |

Send it to BAR, Ferrari, McLaren - if they, and several others, got sponsorship from somewhere other than ciggie companies we wouldn't be having this discussion.
It's absolutely NO GOOD whining to Bernie, or Max, or the Belgian government about this... Let the big players get clean sponsorship money, and then lets go racing at Spa. Smoking kills, and smoking advertising works. |

Can somebody clarify why Spa is being dropped? The official reason is because it doesn't permit tobacco advertising but as far as I know several GPs don't permit tobacco advertising - Britain & Germany for example. Is tobacco just being used as a convenient excuse to create a vacancy in the calander?

A very cynical but probably true asumption there JGM. Germany does allow tobacco advertising although it didn't up until a few years ago. As you say though there are other circuits that don't allow it like the UK and France.

Germany, England and France have made a "gentlemens agreement" to make an exception for the F1 Grand Prix weekend...
Belgium didn't... Damn tobaccocompanies! *mutilates a package of Marlboro* Last edited by ASCII Man; 29 Oct 2002 at 20:28. |

I signed it but I know it is a waste of time. Others have waved $$$ and we all know what makes Bernie tick (Happy Birthday BTW)
F1 died a few years ago, it has been following a funeral march ever since. Spa is yet another nail in the coffin. Perhaps we should run a poll now on how soon MS will win the 2003 Championship. But then again Bernie is probably just writing the script now. Simon |

Let it go?
You seem to enjoy the loss of a great track... Sure, you still have your own Grand Prix so why would you give a about it, right? Oh whatever, let's start a petition or something like it to get CART to Spa... So i could at least enjoy something once a year (sex not included) Last edited by ASCII Man; 29 Oct 2002 at 23:31. |

But we can still enjoy it..... Sports/GT Cars, Touring Cars. It's not the same as F1, but I'd rather watch another series on a decent track like Spa, than a procession at somewhere like Hungaroring.
On the other hand, if you mean you won't be able to watch a series of high priced billboards from the comfort of your living room, then that's true.... and it's also part of the problem. So next time one of the less interesting races in the calender come up, get off your comfortable chair and providing you live within a few hundred km, get a boat, bus whatever and go to Spa and watch tourers, GT's or whatever they have that weekend...... Because if you sit in that comfortable chair and watch whatever boring F1 race at whatever track they decide offers the sponsors the most profit, then you are part of the problem. If you live too far away from Spa, then go watch a rally special stage or something else. PS. I signed the petition, can't hurt I guess. Last edited by alfasud; 30 Oct 2002 at 04:13. |
