Emmo!
TSN is saying that Emmo will announce his team at Spring Training. There's your 18 cars. Got to love it.
Sorry if this was already posted somewhere. |

7G says a portugese driver (Tiago Monteiro?), but they also say things are not settled.
Autoweek said the same as TSN over a week ago, but for Max Papis. Emmo is definitely knocking on every door he can find. Pook's fall back appears to be having Roberto González rent Dale Coyne's #11 machine on a race to race sort of deal. |

There seems to be some speculation surrounding Tiago Monteiro and a possible date in Portugal. But then again, there's always somebody speculating something!
Roberto Gonzalez may just have a ride up until Long Beach, when I expect other teams to join the fold. (Such as a 2nd PK car). |

I can vividly remember Emerson saying in 1995 that he was unhappy at the split, before the IRL started, adn he's always been a CART loyalist since his racing days. He was the first established non-American star to come into it after F1, and definately raised the profile around the world. He'll be much respected as a team owner.

I now hear that CART will be racing in Portugal in 2004. That could explain Monteiro being chosen over Papis.
Apparently an announcement to come today... |

Emerson becoming team owner is a tremendous shot-in-the-arm for the series and its credibility. Some of the marquee players have left recently, but they are quickly being replaced by the likes of Mario, Emmo and Pollock.
It's gonna be impossible for me to pick a "favourite team" anymore. I raise my glass to everybody involved for 2003. To the returning teams for keeping the faith and supporting CART through some tough times. And to the new teams for believing, and for wanting to be a part of the rebirth. CART has turned its back on Dale Coyne, but he never turned his back on CART. Bachelaert coming over from the Dark Side and bringing his sponsors with him. Likewise the way Gentilozzi reneigged on his promise to join TG. That was great stuff. Stephen Johnson, Emmo and Mario for supporting the cause. N/Hass for resisting Toyota's temptation. Obviously much credit must go to Forsythe and his pocketbook. And to Walker for keeping the Reynard alive. And lest we forget Pook's tireless efforts. This is gonna be a fantastic year and I cannot wait! |

Well said macdaddy!!. I love reading stuff from fans that are truely excited instead of the "over the top" cynical and paranoid ****. There are others on other forums that seem to relish in the misfortunes of the Champ Car formula and wish it's early demise. It is more than D and G. And I feel it borders on hatred.... plain and simple. When I read their spite I first get angry and later just very sad...sad for those that need to hate something so special because they follow a different (little) drummer.

Agree FastCar5. My question with those people still is why are they following Cart's fortunes so closely, isn't their series cutting it for interest.

Good question Snout. Lets not waste out thoughts on them....Just enjoy the aroma of spent turbocharged methanol when it comes to town. Unfortunately, you guys will have to wait until the end of the schedule.
p.s. I have a friend Down-Under, we call him Scoot. Have you met him??? ...LOL |

Good to have you back DNQ. It's like loosing a hand isn't it.
FastCar5, I know a guy called Speed, but no Scoot. But in my plan to have a beer with everyone on the planet I'm sure I'll bump into him soon. |

Monteiro won the french formula 3 title in 2001. Last year he was the teammate of Sébastien Bourdais in F3000 in the Supernova team. But he wasn't very impressive. He also did a test for Renault in F1.
Hope CART can be a good opportunity for him to show he's a fast driver. |

Liz,
What Satanic spirit possesed you to toss an insult at an American driver (how usual for you), who happens to be a CART Champion who believes enough in CART to invest his own money, when they were not previously mentioned in the thread? Max is a valid topic, as he was considerd by credible sources (e.g., Autoweek, ESPN) to have been a potential driver for Emmo. Your remark is not. |

So where has Yoong ended up? I thought the second Dale Coyne car was earmarked for him?
If the deal was done or close to being dont I would have expected Yoong would have got a feel for the car in Spring Training wouldnt he?? |
