A potential problem...
As you may know from another topic in trackside, we are planning a weekend at Silverstone this weekend. Spoonerboro went up early (we're due to head up in the morning) but there is no camping at the circuit... and nor will there be prior to the GP (F&M I presume) - the only alternative for those wishing to camp is the Whittlebury golf course @ 12.50 a night... Not a huge help for those of us who intended to enjoy ourselves and then stumble back across the road to the campsite... An akternative will need to be sought prior to the event I think... anyone have local knowledge ? Lorna ? Why the hell did you have to move ??! |

Because, if I didn't move then I wouldn't be able to afford to go to any race meetings this year. Catch 22 situation. Well, I know I will be going home that night then. Shame. The whole point of night racing is the camping!

If the little tykes at Silverstone do not allow camping, do they run a bus service to a habital place like Northampton ? Hopefully a free service.
What would 'they' do if we camped 'en circuit' and the 'nice' Policeman said we could not drive duo to drinking to much, as in borrowed flagpole, circuit walking and traffic cones (NO further details available) etc etc ??? Simon |

It was a joke, Lorna...!
SL, since when has Northampton been habital ? Ref camping at circuit... we camped last night in a borrowed camper van in a car park in Buckingham... but arriving back at the circuit this morning we were greeted with... a whole row of caravans and tents in the car park... I wonder... |

Thinking cap time everyone - what should we do?
Unfortunately I don't think I could erect my tent in the car park – although it was a potential good idea Craig. |

Why not ? It's grass...
Simple really - get ****ed, put the tent up and refuse to move... if they insist, call the police and tell them you cannot move due to the fact you're not prepared to drive in a drunken state... |

I really don't care *which* car park we end up camping in... all I know is that they have to let us park the car some place... if we get ****ed and refuse to move, they're not gonna get a wrecker and drag ten or more of us off site, surely ?

You might be in luck - we were allowed to have a bbq in the car park last year.
It's not Silverstone's fault though - the area is still under quarantine because of foot and mouth, and therefore the landowners cannot be expected, or indeed are probably not allowed, to open the camp sites up to the public. |

Well, as Silverstone is still pretty local to me, I'll be staying in my warm bed! Now, when are they going to invent high security, soundproof tents? I might actually get to like this camping lark then

Contacted Silverstone today .... (well just in case they have changed their mind!) They told me to contact the local Tourist Board ... which I did and they gave me Whittlebury Park's telephone number.
Like Craig has already said they are charging £12.50 per night .... but you can only get access by the main gate at Silverstone which is over 1.5 miles away .... so not much use really. Still no further forward Come on Silverstone help us out please |

I will get back to the UK Thursday AM so I will hopefully get an update then. If there are any offers of campsites please include me Any orders for 'Gadget Glasses' ?? I think that they are £5 a pair plus batteries. Essential for night racing. Simon |

Received an email from Autosport:
Headlights blazing, glowing brakes, bumps, scrapes and near-misses... Experience the thrill of the British Touring Car Championship racing at night at Silverstone on June 2nd. With a fun fair and a whole lot of atmosphere, as well as a full programme of support races, it's a night out not to be missed. You can save a tenner on race day tickets if you book by midday on Tuesday 29th May (£15). Otherwise get yourself down to Silverstone and pay just £25 on the gate. To take up this fantastic offer, please call 01327 850 134 quoting ASW. Please note that all dates, times and prices are subject to confirmation and availability at the time of booking. |

Alternatively try this exclusive 10-tenths offer..
Call the normal box office number (01327 850 259) don't quote any reference number and book your advance tickets for the price of er... £15. Autosport still don't get it. "Exclusive offer" means paying less that you could get them from normal sources. |
