I hear Jos Verstappen made mention a few months ago that a seat may just come up, and he was the man to fill it...
... so that remains a possibility.... He has as much chance as I do probably |

I have just heard that it's Marc Gene who will replace Ralf Schumacher in Silverstone... Pity, I wanted to see Webber's performance at Williams.

It was never (er, very unlikely) that it would be Webber by Williams.
The most likely situation is that Webber joins in 2005 (if he is going to). The last mid season swap like this was Johnny Herbert in '94. However that was between teams that were going bankrupt and teams that shared management. |

Don't be surprised if Webber makes his debut at Williams for the German GP going on the Motorsport News article. They tend to be right more often than not. Lets hope they're right on this one as well.

Maybe Ralf could finish out his season at Jag,not a silly option as they would get a decent driver to give them some feedback on the current car.If he came out and was a full secon faster than Klien then maybe webber wasn't as hot as they thought.

With Ralf confirmed at Toyota, the merry-go-round begins. But I reckon everyone's barking up the wrong tree. I think Willi Webber is lining up a Williams seat for himself...!

Assuming that Webber has lined up a Williams for 2005, would he want to switch early? Mid-season swaps never seem to flatter the driver concerned: eg. I don't think Alesi really did himself justice at Jordan, Wilson struggled to step into the Jaguar team, Salo wasn't able to properly get to grips with the Ferrari (his result at the Hockenheimring notwithstanding). I think as F1 has developed it has become increasingly difficult to jump into a car and impress right away.
It seems to me, therefore, that Webber would be better off seeing out this year at Jag, and use the off-season to learn the Williams team and car without any pressure, rather than risk losing the reputation he's built up if he can't immediately match Montoya, with all the advantages of incumbency. Of course, if nothing's signed for '05, Webber has no choice but to jump in and hope he can impress from the off... Last edited by Gore; 7 Jul 2004 at 13:08. |

I would think it would be to help progress on the FW27 more than anything. Which would be a smart move
