I see exactly what Flavio means - he had to get rid of Button to create a space for Alonso, and Alonso's performances for Renault have proved that was correct.

Not this season it hasn't - Trulli's definately been the faster driver, as well as making less mistakes. Button's probably been more impressive than either of them as well. He probably meant that it was a good decision for his pockets, because he gets 10% of Fernando's wages.
Expect Trulli to fade for the rest of this season, with Alonso probably given the better of what's on offer, which might threaten Renault's chances of finishing 2nd in the CC, and is well-deserved good news for Button. |

Put it this way - who is the more likely future world champion - Trulli or Alonso? |

Exactly Glen - the second season at a front-running team is historically difficult for a driver - and Alonso's keeping his head up.
He has many good years ahead of him, Trulli isn't going to get any better. |

Trulli lets his head go down too easily - over a lap he could even be the quickest guy out there, but he's just not got that edge - he's a 8.5/10 driver, who's driving very well, while I'd say Alonso is a 9+/10 who's had a bit of a dodgy season, but he can raise his game to a level that Trulli hasn't demonstrated he can - great drive at Monaco, and at Austria 97, but how many overtaking moves have you seen Trulli make. In fact, name 1 - for position, against another driver in a top team...

I'm not sure this is a good move for Fisi. Not that Renault isn't a better team than Sauber, but I'm sceptical towards Flavio's double role as both driver manager and team principal. If there comes a time when there will be preferential treatment between Alonso and Fisichella, you can bet Alonso will get the better deal.
Fisichella has experienced preferential treatment under Flavio before - both on the positive and the negative side. This move was probably the best he could get though - and he is moving to a potentially race winning seat. Good luck to him, hopefully this move won't destroy his career. |

Good news for Fisichella that he is finally joining a team that are on the up instead of joining when they are on their way down.

I think the Renault statement is laughable - everyone knows the Flav factor which has been key in all this.
Faure should have had more sense and self-respect to think he can make statements to the contrary and hope that people believe him! I wonder how they will explain when / if Flav walks. Last edited by Hugh Jarce; 28 Jul 2004 at 22:19. |

Guardian's Alan Henry write that Flavio Briatore forced Frank Williams to choose between signing Webber or for the 2005, but made it clear that he could not have both.

Yeah. Flav plays with loaded dice. Interesting that Trulli has cut his ties with FB Management...
